5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 17 Sep 2011
By Jacob Glicklich - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Many of the stories are set in the Aleutian universe, further building a sense of that as one of the richer settings, very well imagined in its long term implications and margins. Also prominent across the story is presentation of imagined economies, the way class, job roles and overall materiality manifests as central, more so than inter-species conflict or space opera dynamics. Overall the collection makes a compelling case that Jones is a first rate short story writer as well as novelist and essayist. Highly recommended.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone, but good if you get it 25 Oct 2013

Gwyneth Jones is one of my favourite authors, - not because she delivers space battles galore, but because she challenges me and does it with style. She writes beautifully and does what real sf should do: she upsets my world-view.

This is a collection of essays, so don't go looking for adventures, but if you want essays that present ideas well, then this is something that you should read.
