Product Description

Review

"This book constitutes a masterful rereading of Kant....Neiman not only covers ground rarely covered by commentators but also shows how this neglect leads them to misinterpretation....Neiman's study...is by far the most careful analysis of this difficult area of Kant's work. The clarity of her thinking and the lucidity of her writing make this book a major achievement."--Ethics

Product Description

The Unity of Reason is the first major study of Kant's account of reason. Susan Neiman argues that Kant's philosophy reconceives the nature of reason, and she shows how that philosophy provides a basis for the unity of theory and practice. Exploring the historical background of Kant's notion of reason, as well as the role of reason in Kant's accounts of science, morality, religion, and philosophy, she provides a fundamentally new perspective on Kant's entire work.

A Helpful Analysis 2 Jan 2002
By Dr. Joachim Gruber - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Susan Neiman helped me structure my scarce prior knowledge. It is through her book that I feel I understand the relevance for today of Kant's analysis of the basis of science: The edifice of science represents a culture built on clearly defined assumptions that can not be justified from within the culture. So, this edifice also acts as a mind trap.
