5.0 out of 5 stars Solid stuff, with a grounded, realistic edge 15 Mar 2008
I think I like The Unit more than any other TV series I've ever seen, with the possible exception of a couple of seasons of 24. On some levels though, I even prefer it to 24, and that's saying something, as I do regard 24 as being at the very top as far as TV shows go, and although 24 is probably slicker and better crafted than The Unit, and more likely to be popular with a wider audience, I'm still drawn to the realistic feel that The Unit has, and the fact that it's not overly dramatic or totally blown out of proportion for the sake of entertainment, but actually tries to capture and express something fairly real and credible and with respect to the real Special Forces.

I didn't expect much from The Unit back when I started watching the first series, but little by little I have come to respect it, and now at the end of series 2 I can clearly say that there's nothing else out there that I'd rather watch. I do have a strong interest in and respect for the Special Forces (foreign and domestic), and the military in general, so obviously The Unit is right up my street so to speak. If you don't have an interest in such things then you'll probably not be quite as appreciative of it as I am, but nevertheless, interested or not, it's still an engaging and often tense and exciting show.

My favourite episode from The Unit is still from the first series, called 'Dedication'.

I thoroughly recommend The Unit to everyone, especially to those who have an interest in, or respect for, the highly skilled and self-sacrificing elite soldiers of the world, and the military in general.

I have no idea when series 3 will be out, but I certainly look forward to it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I agree 10 Nov 2008

with who think that this season in better then first. Lesser space for "domestic" situation and the "usual" well made action scenes. A good cast, serrated plots with a variety of scenaries from USA and Europe to Afghanistan and North Korea. If you have likes Ultimate Force (very disappointing the only four season of the show ..) this "american version" is for you. A limit ? A 41-42 minutes' show is too short for more complex situations

4.0 out of 5 stars Even better than season 1 28 Oct 2007
This season is even better than the last with more self contained episodes and less happening in the wives storylines(horray). The last disk with the last 3 episodes lets the story down, as always they leave you hanging. Why can't they end these serieses with good endings. Other than the last disk the rest of the stories are enjoyable and exiting to watch.

I would have preferred not to watch the last disk until they brought out season 3, so that we are not left waiting months/years for the continuation.

In all very good. grrrr silly endings.

Although this reviewer was already very impressed by the quality of the writing and attention to detail of the first series of CBS's 'The Unit', I was pleased to see that the producers had secured a bigger slice of the financial cake to expand the 'world' in which this shadowy outfit operates, allowing for a greater diversity of terrain and characters. Although already on top of their game militarily speaking, the guys - and gals - of the 303rd Logistical Studies Group are at breaking point; Mack's promise to Tiffy that he would not re-enlist becomes a u-turn, and the fall-out has consequences for their children; Bob and Kim face a crisis when he is 'tapped-up' by a government agency; and Colonel Ryan's decision to marry in haste allows him to repent at leisure. On the real battlefield, the action sequences are well-written and, as always, the attention to detail is great. The best of the episodes deals with Bob's attempt to survive after a helicopter crash while reflecting on his experiences during Selection, while the weakest is set in a garden centre that ostensibly passes for Borneo, and unintentional laughs ensue. Hence, the loss of a star; but don't let that put you off - this is thoughful, well-written blokes' telly that also retains an appeal for the ladies.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Unit Season 2 29 July 2009
A great purchase a very good box set which has a great finale which leaves you wanting more. So much so I bought Season 3 to find what happens next!!!The only disapointment was that season 3 was shorter(due to writers strike) however I will purchase season 4 when it becomes avilable. Overall a good purchase and one I would recommend to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Unit 20 Jan 2014

Great show. You know what you are going to get when David Mamet teams up with Shawn Ryan. It's an action show but it's a family drama and it all plays out in such a way that it feels like "good old fashioned TV". Sorely missed.

Somehow it is not the type of series I like. I watched just 4-5 episodes in hope it will get better... but unfortunately not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Addictive military drama
This is the kind of drama that the Americans do very well: slick, well-written, well-acted, beautifully-shot - but not too radical or disturbing of the social mores. Read more
