Product Description

The Los Angeles based singer, Jesse Belvin was a huge influence over doo wop groups and the city's emerging R&B talent until his tragic death in 1960. This is the first ever collection to compile his earliest work including his 1959 and 1960 album releases recorded just before his death, both of which are presented on CD2 in true stereo. Features his three most famous hits: "Goodnight My Love", "Guess Who" and "Dream Girl". Jesse was on the brink of the kind of stardom that has been bestowed to the likes of Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, but sadly this was not to be. So if you love early R&B and Doo Wop then now is your chance to pick up and check out one of finest artists of that era who is often sadly overlooked.

Very pleasant easy listening CD. I really only bought it for the superb track "Guess Who" and it is worth it for that track alone. Possibly an acquired taste ?

Jesse Belvin; one of the world's greatest singers 13 Mar. 2011

Finally two entire JESSE BELVIN ALBUMS IN TRUE STEREO!Although ace and collectables have released compilations of Jesse Belvin recordings ,niether have bothered to seek out the stereo masters.Having been a record collector for nearly 50 years,I own true stereo copies of "JUST JESSE BELVIN"and "MISTER EASY"The difference between the mono versions on ace and collectables is like sardines and caviar!!! There should be a law that the cd company must state in bold tipe;"this cd is mono" or this cd is in true STEREO"!Then collectors who own a stereo lp would know they were getting a stereo version, before the purchse.IBOUGHT THE ACE AND THE COLLECTABLES COMPILATIONS wishing for the steeo versions, because, let's face it,the differance is astronomical, which brings me to the JASIME CD SET.Stated right on the front cover of the cd is;2 original stereo albums & singles.Whithout these words I would have missed out on the perfect arraingements by Shorty Rogers, and his orchestra, which are pure genious charts,in crisp three channel stereo, with Jesse crooning in the center. You will not believe your ears that recordings produced in 1959 and 1960 sound so clear and flawless as though they were recorded yesterday. musicman

Nice CD Set 13 May 2013

Though, I was told they were mastered from vinyl LPs, but, still, very few hints of vinyl culls!!!
I agree, Jessie was an underrated singer, shame he died so young!! Love the Big Band sound!! Enjoyed "It's Alright With Me", where the Band gets to solo!!
A great forgotton talent! 6 April 2013

It's a cliche saying someone died too soon, but that's the case with Jesse Belvin. He only had one pop hit (Guess Who, #31 in 1959) plus the classic "Goodnight My Love." When he died in a car crash under questionable circumstances in 1960, he was just starting to kick start he career. Some say he sounded like Nat King Cole. No, he sounded like Jesse Belvin with his own distinctive style. I would have enjoyed more RCA non-lp material in this set, but this set covers most of his too-short career and life.
