The Underwater Photography Guide: Practical tips on how to shoot like the pros by RICHARD CAREY is "Simply the best!!!".
Long story short. I've just recently gone from a Canon Ixus 130(compact)in an Ikelite case, to a Canon 5Dmkii with Aquatica housing :0)
The conversion is daunting, and a lot more complicated the I originally thought. Partially due to my own expectations, of the standard of photographs I'm wanting to achieve with my new set up.
Then came all the new knowledge that had to take on board! Aperture, focal length, ISO, back scatter, depth of field, shutter speed, white balance, RAW etc etc etc....
With the help (and patience) from Spencer of Cameras underwater I got the best equipment I could afford.
I've bought several books to help assist my knowledge to become a better underwater photographer with my DSLR. But I can honestly say Richards book is by far the best.
What I've found from most of my other photography books I've owned, the writer is trying to impress you with their wealth of knowledge and understanding!! So they bombard you with lots of information that you find nearly impossible to understand, and are non the wiser for reading it!! Oh and the best is they always put a few amazing photographs in, but don't tell how they took them!!! Fantastic.
Why have I taken time out to right this then about Richards book??? Credit where credit is due...
Quite simply it's the best!!
Very clear concise explanations. Photographic examples of right and wrong images, which are very useful to compare for visual learners. Help and tips on how to set up your equipment, finally at the end of each section he gives a clear summary of what you've just covered.
The icing on the cake!

This book is an easy read. Underwater photography has some real differences to land photography and this book sets them out and how to work with them. From equipment set up and changing settings to picking subjects and getting in the right position is all covered and has helped me tremendously. It's almost as if I'm looking with different eyes. Should have got this sooner.

To be honest I don't know anything about diving, just bought it as a gift for someone else. It looks a very informative, so am hoping the recipient will enjoy it.

It is nice when writers get to the point! 27 Aug. 2014
By Svati Patel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
This is a great a book. It is a very quick read written in an easy-to-learn writing style. Goes straight to relevant facts and tips. I made many highlights while reading the ebook and compiled them into a separate Word document. I read through my notes and found that even the highlighted snippets are insightful. My notes will travel with me on my dive trip to serve as a reference. Again, this is illustrative of a beautifully concise writing styles that emphasizes focus on tips and practical guidance (and rationale for that guidance) over superfluous information and descriptions. I have purchases and/or read many photography books, so this writing style is much appreciated. I highly recommend this to anyone starting out in underwater photography.

Met my needs 27 Feb. 2013

I'm an experienced photographer shopping for a new DSLR and wanting to get seriously involved in underwater photography. The book really covered what I needed to know in order to make the right purchase and begin to take better photos on SCUBA dives. For the novice at photography they might need to supplement with other instructional materials.

What you need to know, plainly said, at a bargain price. 14 April 2012
By Jim P. - Published on Amazon.com

Rich Carey takes a common-sense, plain-English approach to explaining underwater photography, getting in a remarkable amount of the things you need to know in a lean, clear and concise 93 pages. The emphasis is on doing what you have to do to get the picture, without descending into jargon or excessively technical language. He also doesn't assume that everyone can go out and buy the latest and greatest of everything, and gives good advice on getting the most out of what you have to work with. Read it - for 5 bucks you can't go wrong.

Writes like a teacher of photography, not instructional manual for a camera. Clear stated so one can make the camera work underwater for you.
