The popularity of Marvel's mutant superheroes has hit fever pitch in the UK, but while our US cousins have been reading the comicbooks since the 1960's, they are slightly harder to get hold of over here. Thankfully, us Brits can now get up to speed with Ultimate X-Men.
This lavish encyclopedia delves into every major character, storyline and event ever to take place in the X-Men comics, as well as detailing the numerous costumes, vehicles and paraphanalia the spandex vigilantes have utilized. There's comparissons with the movie versions of the characters, plus articles on the animated series, a foreword by Stan Lee, an afterwood by Chris Claremont....everything.
Peter Sanderson, author of the terrific Marvel Universe, avoids his psychological exploration of the characters for simple, straight forward prose, but in doing so he pulls off the seemingly impossible; he makes 40 years of tangled continuity understandable, even to the most unexperienced reader. Fans of the blockbuster movie are positively welcomed, and will be facinated by the scope of the printed X-Universe. Fans of the comics will find a huge ammount of spectacular artwork and trivia to pore over. A delight for X-Fans of all ages.

As a kid I was fascinated by the mutated world of the x-men, hell I even wanted to be one,a kind of mixture betweem wolverine and archangel, but as I grew older comic books and me seemed to grow apart.Then with the release of X-men the movie, all my love was restored.I went to see the movie with a few friends and afterwards we went for a couple of pints and discussed the film. It was then that I realised just how much i'd forgot and just how much I didn't know about it.Boy was I glad when this book came out, it has details on every main character (and the not so familiar), things like how they came across their powers, when they first used them, how they developed them etc etc...Plus it is fully illustrated with colour pictures of each character, some in various guises plus information on things like Xaviers mansion and Magnetos island of Genosha.A must for ALL comic book fans, and with its glossy finish and a very reasonable price who could say no.

I have to say this is a great book, it gives you character(a hugh variety) history, technical info on things like Cyclops Vizor! If you are new to X men this will give you a sound background if you are a dedicated X fan this will not bore you because even I was impressed. Top stars to this book!!!

Very suspenseful
Many things lead up to the climax of the story. Overall I think the X-men story is very well written.
