Being a keen amateur body-builder(and eating what most people would consider to be a reasonably healthy and balanced diet), I did not expect to learn a great deal from this book. How wrong I was! From the very first page I found myself undergoing a fundamental re-assessment of the food I was eating and what my body was doing with that food. Instead of being another exercise in calorie-counting, here was a book that spelt out very clearly and precisely the essential nutrition package for human-beings, the optimum path for our bodies to absorb those nutients and - perhaps most importantly of all- why we have got it so wrong in the last few minutes of our evolutionary time-clock........with disastrous consequences for public health generally. If you are looking for another "quick fix" or an easy answer then this book is not for you. If however, you really are serious about what you eat and why, then this book could change your life - forever.

There are more nutrition books out there than you can point a stick at. There are more theories than you can count. This book finally delivers a crystal clear and comprehensive treatment of all things to do with nutrition and lifestyle. It brings together many fields of study, very extensive practical experience and synthesizes these into a single comprehensive guide. A must for anyone interested in nutrition and lifestyle.

I bought Nash's book out of respect for his own personal achievements and out of interest in his theories. I approached the book with a very open mind, almost wanting to be convinced. However, what I found did not convince me. The book makes some HUGE claims and statements, but backs nothing up with any scientific data. The book as good as links modern diseases such as cancer etc to modern diets. These are huge inferences to make without solid scientific data. Over and over the book makes claims, asserts 'facts' and endeavours to re wire the brain of the reader but does so with only the word of Nash. No science the reader can examine, no research data at all. To encourage the reader to abandon so many forms of carbohydrates, even good, Low GI carbs such as Oats, Sweet Potato etc in favour of nothing but minimally cooked meats, raw fruit and vegtables and nuts etc without offering any research data or scientific facts is too much imo. Sure modern society over consumes carbs and empty calories, and much of what Nash says is correct. However so extreme are his views they really do require evidence to back them up if the reader is in anyway questioning.
The book is well written and quite convincing in that respect, it is easy for a reader to simply believe all they read. But ask a question, look for data or proof and the book carries none. The book does not even have the most basic of things, a bibliography of references the author has used and referred to. How can a book which advocates such extreme diet changes not illustrate the material the author relies on for his theories??????
I would im sorry to say encourage people NOT to buy this book. "The Zone" by Barry Sears is a far far better book along simillar lines, though not as extreme as Nash's. It is a far more credible book also for people with an interest in improving their diet.
