Clear how-to guide to using a microscope, for fun or learning, from beginners upwards. Doesn't assume that you have any prior knowledge. I much prefer this book to the various mass-market ones I have already, as it's much more practical and specific; too many other books just show you photos of things through a microscope, but don't make clear what you can realistically achieve with home equipment, or they just assume that you know how to prepare a slide - but don't tell you what you have to do to get a good image. This book talks you through how to prepare a slide, what magnification you need to see something and so on, and most of it doesn't need any special lab equipment - much of this can be done at home, with a very cheap microscope. Lots of clear photos and an uncluttered layout. The authors stress that no animal was harmed in making the book and specify how to get interesting samples from dead insects.
