Welsh born 'Tom Jones Woodward' stage name - 'Tom Jones' burst onto the Pop-scene
in the mid-sixties with his recording 'It's Not Unusual' and has continued to record right
up to this day (Of course many will have seen him as one of the promoters/judges on the
BBC series 'The Voice'
Though I would not count myself as a great fan of 'Tom's' I have to admit I know many of
his early numbers such as the ones on-board this release, word for word, and yes I like
many of you I'm sure, I have my favourites among his songs, for me, 'The Green Green
Grass of Home' 'Thunderball' 'Delilah' 'Daughter of Darkness' and 'The Young New
Mexican Puppeteer' are, indeed why I own this 'Greatest -Hits' offering.
There is no doubting 'Tom's' vocal range it is of course, pure quality.
This album as indicated earlier has many of his earlier recordings and hits on-board including
'It's Not Unusual' (Chart '1' 1965) 'What's New Pussycat' (Chart '11' 1965) 'Green Green
Grass of Home' (Chart '1' 1965) 'Thunderball' (Chart '35' 1966) (Which also indicates of
course just how long the '007' movies have been around) 'I'm Coming Home' (Chart '2' 1967)
'Delilah' (Chart '2' 1968) 'Daughter of Darkness' (Chart '5' 1970) 'She's A Lady' (Chart '13' 1971)
and 'The Young New Mexican Puppeteer' (Chart '6' 1972) a listing of some of the 23 tracks on
board this release, featuring many of his best known, mainly early recordings and hits.
'Tom Jones' has certainly enjoyed a glittering career, (around 36 Top 40 U.K Hits and 19 Top 40
Hits in 'America') appearances on many of the major stages and venues world-wide.
This an album with much of his significant material on-board, I feel this is a good reflection of his
best loved recordings down the years, if you maybe just want the one 'Tom Jones' album I'd say
this is worth checking out.
