By Peter Lee TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
I remember the first book in this series (The Book of Heroic Failures: The Official Handbook of the Not Terribly Good Club of Great Britain) appearing in the house when I was a child, and my father laughing loudly as he read the stories within. A few years later a second book appeared (The Return of Heroic Failures) and the wonderful scene was repeated. Eventually the books were passed on to me, and I too loved them. Since then I've found myself repeating the stories in conversation, dozens remembered in detail, and the books sit proudly on my shelves, often returned to.

For some reason I found this new collection rather disappointing. It is good for dipping into during idle moments, or on short journeys, but unlike its predecessors I only found three or four stories had me in stitches and prompted me to read them to people around me, particularly the story about the policeman in disguise. It's all good, clean fun, and suitable for all ages, but sadly I just didn't find this batch of failures anywhere near as amusing as those from the previous books.

Truly a great read 22 Oct 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I heard about this book on the radio and knew that I really had to get a copy. I can confirm that it truly did not disappoint! I can confirm that this book is laugh out loud funny to the point that I felt the need to make lots of noise about it both here and on Facebook!

Stephen, thank you for a great piece of entertainment!

Must buy. 6 Nov 2011
Format:Hardcover
I bought the original book of heroic failures from jurby junk shop in the Isle of Man for 50p.
It was the best 50p I ever spent! I've been slipping in quotes and anecdotes from the book into converations ever since.
So I felt duty bound to purchase the proper version of the sequel, so that even if the book is rubbish I've paid my dues for the great resource his first book was.
The good news is that I didn't waste my money, the follow up has, as hoped for, many golden nuggets of barmy facts and rediculous - but - true stories, It's not as impact-full as the original but there again what sequel ever is?
If you've never read the original then this will make you grin out loud, and If you've already read the original; although this hasn't exactly raised the bar, it definitely follows on in the same vein, which is no bad thing.

Crushingly pedestrian
Whilst the stories in this book were both amusing and well written, I was saddened by the pedantically accurate spelling used throughout as well as the frankly souless attitude... Read more

Not as good as the original, but I'm still laughing

Very enjoyable
The original book is one I no longer have, but I remember almost wetting myself with laughter back in the 80s when I read it. Read more

A risky read!
In my opinion this book should come with a health warning. It should be read under medical supervision, and certainly not while eating-there is a serious risk of choking to death,... Read more
