Everything you could ever possibly want to knit for your baby - but didn't know how - is now contained in this stylish new book
--Junior magazine, June 1, 2011

Product Description

Having brought up two children of her own, Debbie is all too aware of the practical aspects of designing for babies and children. The Ultimate Book of Baby Knits is a charming collection of practical, yet beautiful, hand-knit garments, toys and other nursery essentials that will delight every new parent and their baby. To make up this compendium, Debbie Bliss has selected her 50 favourite projects from her three most recent books (Blankets Bears and Bootees, Simply Baby, and Essential Baby) to provide a core collection not just for newborn babies but also for toddlers up until the age of two years. Catering to all your baby's knitwear needs, this collection includes everything from the quintessential baby blankets, teddy bears and bootees through to a hooded wrap, snug duffel coat and felted slippers. All 50 projects are knitted in beautiful, classic yarns that are not only soft and gentle against a young skin, but are also low-maintenance in that they are easy to wash and care for, to ensure that baby is kept wonderfully snug and cosseted right through its first stages in life. The Ultimate Book of Baby Knits is the perfect project book for anyone struggling to find smart contemporary knitwear designs for their baby or toddler.

By Clare Mccann VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This collection of some of the best of Debbie Bliss's patterns is a really beautifully put together book with lots of inspiring ideas. I'd stop short of saying I'd make everything in it, because some of the ideas actually seemed a bit of a waste of wool (it's not cheap!) and time, particularly things like the knitted heart-shaped mobile and the wool baby socks, which I imagine would stay on a babies feet for about 5 seconds!

However as is to be expected from Debbie Bliss the bulk of the book is comprised wonderful simple modern patterns for cardigans, jackets and jumpers which I imagine any new mother would be absolutely delighted with. Both my husband and I particularly liked the patterns for a knitted bear and rabbit.

For new knitters there are also some clearly laid out simple knitting instructions at the beginning of the book, so little excuse not to try the projects yourself!

If I had one complaint it would be about the proliferation of patterns for bootees/sandals/socks (9 out of a total of 50 patterns!) bootees aren't many people's bag these days and generally if you're reaching for a Debbie Bliss book it's to try and find something *different* from that stereotype!

So anyway, whether you are looking for a book for you or an enthusiastic knitter in your family who has asked to make something for a new arrival, you can rarely do better than Debbie Bliss, and with a collection of her favourite patterns this is an excellent place to start!

Nice, but not ultimate 28 April 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I'm giving this a 3-star neutral review, because it wasn't special enough to call itself "ultimate" and there are mistakes in some of the patterns.
This is a lovely book of baby and toddler knitting patterns, if you don't already own any.
However, there are relatively few of the patterns I would use, partly because many of them would cost the best part of £50-£100 to knit, using Debbie Bliss yarns!
As pointed out by previous reviewers, many of the patterns only come in specific sizes - e.g. toddlers, rather than "baby knits", as the book's title might suggest.
Also, many of the designs seem to be unnecessary tweaks on classic designs, where the tweaks serve to complicate, rather than add to the finished product.
I have knitted up 3 of the designs so far and found the baby booties (3-6 months) were big enough to fit my 3 year-old. Admittedly, my tension can be slightly loose, but it's not that bad!
I have also found errors in two of the other patterns so far, including one that simply wouldn't knit correctly, no matter what I tried.
However, this is generally a lovely book with plenty of arty photos of the knits and some lovely new designs for coats and jackets, which you don't normally see. ("Search inside" would be really helpful to prospective buyers!)
I'm not sure I'll be trying out the knitted knickers and trousers but, at the price, this is a good, varied collection of baby and toddler knits from one of the UK's favourite knitwear designers.

Sweet and pretty. 29 Jan 2012
By H. Playford VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This is a beautifully presented collection of patterns for babies & toddlers which I would recommend if you don't already own any of Debbie Bliss' other baby/toddler knitting books. I don't think there's a great deal new in this volume.

As is often the case with books by designers with their own ranges of yarn, all the patterns are "supposed" to be knit with Debbie Bliss yarns, which would render a lot of them incredibly expensive. This is not a criticism of this book in particular, but it is worth pointing out, to newer knitters in particular, that there is a lot more flexibility in yarn choice than the book would have you believe.

So, although it contains nothing very unique, many (most) of the patterns are very pretty, and if you are a knitter who likes the photographic inspiration, or simply must work from a printed pattern, this is a good value book.

The proof will be in the knitting
but we're amazed at the quality of the book itself, and the wide range of patterns. Doubt that there will be any need to buy any of the similar books!

Great book to get started with knitting
Has an excellent selection of items and reasonably straight-forward to follow with a little practice at knitting, though not much for beginners.
