The Ultimate Best Of.......... well if like me you love good disco tracks then this is for you and anybody that loves just good music, the 2 cd set has everything you want, all the hit singles and songs we now dont get to hear at all, cd 1 is all the hits and more and a few songs i have never heard before UPTOWN FESTIVAL, not on a collection, i was the asst manager of a big night club many years ago and when you get to cd 2, you will see why with all the 12inch tracks shalamar would always fill the dance floor and it would always be packed, great songs and great music, its been far to long waiting for a cd set like this and the full 12inch tracks of a group that in my eyes where a big main stay of the clubs, i did meet them all twice on a promotion tour and they all where great people and would do such a great set, and they could sing.....every track is as good as the next, so look at the price and go get this, you will have lots of fun and iam pretty sure you will be tapping your feet and will want to get to a club where good disco is still played and dance the night away like us old folks always did..........lol..........so go and get this cd now and MAKE IT A NIGHT TO REMEMBER.............................enjoy

The trio of Hewett, Watley, and Daniels was the best! 12 May 2012

While this "best of" compilation is a good representation of the 80's hit-making trio, it is obvious that the threesome of Howard Hewett, Jody Watley, and Jeffrey Daniel were the best incarnation of the group. While two of the group's hits, "Uptown Festival" and "Take That to the Bank," featured other leads, though Watley and Daniels were in the latter, it wasn't until Hewitt joined in that the group found its niche...and what a niche it was: great vocals, wonderful rhythms, and danceable beats.

This package showcases the group's major chart successes, with extended mixes of some of the more popular of these on disc two. It is disc two that makes this a worthy addition to anyone's collection. Many of the songs resonate today, making them timeless, especially on the dance floor.

Just a quick quote from the everlasting Aunt Esther, and it's true. Where most CDs have multiple titles of songs with absolutely no description of time frame, then you end up with short single versions all around. Not good from a previous disco DJ that was spoiled rotten with the transition from 45s to 12" format thanks largely to wonderful Tom Moulton's talents and engineered influence on the whole genre. So here we have not only the original classics by this group, but additional 12" extended hits on second disc, and god does it show because the songs are long in extended glory. Take That To The Bank is simply not the same as the single version. The additional musical extension right after 3:10 is glorious for yet another full three minutes of pounding instrumental that reminds me of the soul philly days! It's too bad Shalimar has not gone the way of MP3 downloads because the disc is the only place to get these incredible hits.
