About the Author

Former marketing director Siobhan Freegard founded Netmums in 2000, while on maternity leave with her second child, largely to help address issues of isolation amongst new mothers. The network quickly grew beyond her Harrow locale to become nationwide and now boasts almost 1 million members, with 4 million visitors a month and 2,000 new members joining every week. Netmums has been voted by Which? among their '101 Websites That Will Change Your Life'. Hollie Smith is a freelance journalist specialising in parenting and health. She has written for various women's weekly magazines as well as for the Mirror and the Daily Mail.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical, Sensible, Informative 12 May 2012
Format:Paperback
This book from the Netmums team is a must have for the new parent. It is written in a conversational style by the author with some great input from a paediatrician, health visitors and a psychologist. What really makes this book stand out is the input from every day mums and dads, that help give the book a friendly feel. What comes through very much is that its ok to feel out of your depth at times, and that there is more than one way to go about raising your baby. I enjoyed this book very much.

I bought this book as a gift for my sister and she says she's found it so useful. She read the whole thing when she was expecting and finished it off in the early months with her new baby. It's one of those books that you keep going back to refer to as issues crop up but feel so much more in control once you've been through it. Our sister-in-law is now expecting and I suggested she pass it on to her, she pondered this but eventually decided to buy her her own copy as she didn't want to give hers up! A great read and well recommended.
