5.0 out of 5 stars Play the uke in under an hour...REALLY! 16 Sep 2009
The best thing about playing the ukulele is that your basic chords are so easy to play and with just three or four chords, your on your way to belting out some of the greatest tunes ever written. Forget George Formby, even though his tunes are as popular today, we are talking classic tunes from The Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles, Queen, Blur, Stevie Wonder, Madness, John Denver, Ting Tings, Amy Winehouse, The Troggs, Johnny Cash, Green Day...the list goes on. Not all these songs are three or four chords mind, but most are so simple you will be able to rattle them off in no time, believe me as I have only been playing over a month and have very little musical skills! You get the 'bar chords' picture to show how to play that chord, lyrics, time signature etc. A great book for beginners or acomplished uke players alike. Join the Ukulele revolution now with this amazing book!

I have this and the The Ukulele Playlist: The Blue Book. The book gives chord box diagrams and an explanation of how to read them, but no guidance on reading the music notation. I did learn to read music a little at school, but a page just to remind readers how to read music for the ukulele as used in the book would have been very helpful, hence 4 stars. I think the Blue Book has a couple more songs that are easier for a complete beginner.

Otherwise a good collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Uke can lele if you want to... 21 Jan 2010

Try, try, bend those fingers, press and strum - great fun playing the moderns - still requires a good knowledge of music to get the timings but an enjoyable way to learn... I do find myself searching for a recording of the tunes to get the beat before playing...

I give this 5 stars mainly because it's EXACTLY what I was looking for; an easy-to-use songbook with a variety of old and new songs that a new player like me could get stuck right into. I personally like that the chord diagrams only appear at the start of each song rather than on each occurance, because this encourages you to actually learn the chords in easy handfuls. Without doubt there are a few instances of "THAT song on ukulele?!", but whether or not it sounds good is entirely up to you!

3.0 out of 5 stars A decent songbook but not as good as Blue 3 July 2012

If you're looking for an all-round songbook The Ukulele Playlist books are very good. Clear chord diagrams, strum patterns and all the lyrics. However this is not an easy book at all... I've owned the Blue book in the series and it is far easier than the Yellow one. If you're a beginner definitely go for the Blue book first!
