I suspect that most people coming across a reference to this band will most likely overlook them given the throwaway name they have given themselves - too bad! I purchased this CD in my local indie music store after reading a review and it has become one of my favorites, rarely leaving the CD player in my car. Wave upon wave of chiming Rickenbackers, layered vocal harmonies, insatiable hooks, thoughtful arrangements with varying dynamics, and flawless production will leave you pondering how a band's first effort can sound so accomplished. Reference points? Lots come to mind, some obscure some not, but this band seems to evoke the most memories of 90's-era power/jangle pop - Riverside, Posies, Gigolo Aunts, Sloan, and The LA's come to mind (for me at least). You can cite your obligatory Big Star/Hollies touch points for credibility, I suppose, but The Ugly Suit has found a way to update the obvious with thier own unique flourishes. A noble effort in such a well-traveled genre. Well worth your consideration. Don't blame me if you find yourself singing along with the volume cranked. Utterly sublime.
