Product Description

After a health scare, Brighton-based Lou is forced to confront the fact that her time to have a baby is running out. She can’t imagine a future without children, but her partner doesn’t seem to feel the same way, and she’s not sure whether she could go it alone. Meanwhile, up in Yorkshire, Cath is longing to start a family with her husband, Rich. No one would be happier to have a child than Rich, but Cath is infertile. Could these strangers help one another out? Combining Sarah Rayner’s deft exploration of raw emotions with the joy and resilience of friendship, The Two Week Wait is a memorable, moving page-turner about two very different women, each yearning to create a family of her own. Praise for One Moment, One Morning: ‘A real page-turner . . . You’ll want to inhale it in one breath’ Easy Living ‘An intimate, thoughtful novel celebrating women’s friendship and loyalty’ Waterstone’s Books Quarterly ‘A great, quirky must-read’ Red ‘Delicious, big-hearted, utterly addictive . . . irresistible’ Marie Claire

4.0 out of 5 stars A light read despite sensitive subject matter 2 Sep 2012
By K. Wright VINE™ VOICE
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
We were first introduced to the character of Lou in Sarah Rayner's previous bestseller, "One Moment, One Morning," where she witnesses a man's death after a heart attack on a train. The man's wife, Karen, and her best friend Anna meet Lou through this unfortunate tragedy and strike up a friendship. All three characters feature in "The Two Week Wait," and as such I would recommend reading Rayner's previous book before this one, although it is not essential, it does give more back story to the Brighton-based women.

Lou hasn't considered having children at this stage in her life, but after an operation to remove a cyst, she is confronted with the reality that it's now or never, although her partner Sofia in not keen. Meanwhile, in the Yorkshire Dales, Cath also longs for a child with her husband Rich, although her recent battle with cancer has left her infertile and her age means adoption is out of the question. The story continues between the two women's perspectives as they both look into the option of egg sharing through IVF and although they never meet, they attend the same fertility show, the same clinic and share stories on an online forum.

As with her previous novel, Rayner writes sensitively, capturing a huge range of emotions from the characters as they go through `The Two Week Wait,' to find out if they are expecting. Whilst the book focuses on the two female characters, I also enjoyed the parts the minor characters play. I would recommend this, especially if you have read "One Moment, One Morning," and would even suggest that "The Two Week Wait," is the better read overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a treat! 19 Mar 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Nothing worse than finishing a book and feeling bereft without the characters in your life anymore - that is how I felt after finishing the heart wrenching 'One Moment One Morning' - so imagine my delight when I found 'The Two Week Wait' which features all the same characters! It was such a treat to delve into their lives again and to read such a compassionately written and unusual plot. Excellent characterisation and superb pace as always. Another stunner from Sarah Rayner - thank you! X
