Hmmmmmmmm 2 May 2011
Format:Hardcover
Well this book has been a long-time coming. I pre-ordered over a year ago and Amazon ended up giving me my money back! And frankly, this book is a nice companion piece but along with the Bree Tanner book (which was originally going to be included in this book) Meyer and her publishers are starting to enter a vein of ripping off the very loyal fanbase. There is a nice interview most of which I have read before - a lot of this stuff is available for free from Meyer's official website which is rarely updated now. The only posts are usually to inform about the latest DVD or film release. These books are beautifully made and the set is a lovely edition to any Twilight collection but frankly, I don't know what I've paid for. Much of Meyer's story and the backdrop of Twilight has been covered. You can already access her Playlists and even deleted scenes on her website and there is a FAQ section there too. So why did Meyer spend years working on this (most of which I imagine was already available to her) when she could have actually been writing something? The alleged sequel to The Host perhaps, finish Midnight Sun (which is controversial in itself of course to some but I know I would buy it anyway), or go for the potential follow up to Breaking Dawn or even create a whole new world? Buy this only if you are a Twihard or can't bear the set to be incomplete - this is not for dabblers! Save your cash and go to her website!

By Maecy

I think the main audience for this book are going to be people who are already fans of the Twilight series. If you are the kind of fan who has read the books more than once, checked Stephenie Meyers website and read the extras she has there, then this is not the book for you. Much of what is written is already on her website and if you were capable of keeping characters and plot lines straight the first time through this is not going to add much to you experience. The majority of the book is a list of all the characters and then details about their personal backgrounds. Very little of this is new (and often it is a direct transcript from the books). There is some interesting extras about Alice and one or two other characters but most of what there is, is repetitious and leaves you with more questions than answers (eg. the Denali sisters mother creating an immortal child - the books tell you she does it, so does the guide, neither tells you why.) However if you are the kind of fan who struggled to keep the characters and themes straight and would like all your information in one place (although the Stephenie Meyer website actually has a lot more of the extras and out-takes than the book does), then you'll find this book very useful.

A lot of the book appears to have been compiled not by Meyer herself but by two fans from the Twilight Lexion. The amazon.com website has a lot more reviews and it would be sensible to check these out before committing to the buying this book at its current full purchase price (I wouldn't have regretted buying it had it been half the cost). I thought there would be a lot more explanation and "secrets" but there is very little. There are a lot of character profiles giving eye colour (very little variation with vampires of course), physical build, date of transformation (often just detailed as "unknown" - which struck me as odd, surely the author should know?) And them some facts about them, as previously mentioned, most of the facts are things you already know from reading the books, or just stuff that is irrelevant to the plot. I guess the real idea of this guide is to allow you to imagine the physical characteristics of the characters more fully, rather than actually allowing you to know more secrets about the Twilight-Saga-world.

As a final note, I purchased the kindle edition, its not formatted properly, you get blank pages and repeats in the text.

A casual fan's review 10 Jun 2011
Format:Hardcover
Firstly, let me assert the fact that I am not an obsessed Twilight fan, so I hope my opinion may help those of you who are just 'casual' readers of Twilight.

I, unlike hundreds of others, didn't wait impatiently for this to be released. I didn't even know there was going to be a guide. However, I had received a WH Smith voucher; when I saw it in the shop, I was intrigued. I didn't expect much of it.

However, this book is well worth the purchase, in my opinion. The back stories were fascinating, and I learned so many new things about the world of Twilight; it really adds depth to the reading experience for me. As many die-hard fans have said, some of the information is already available on line (particularly the interview) so if you already know everything about Twilight, there won't be that much new except for the stories (Alice's, Allistair's and Victoria's were my favourite).

All in all, if you know pretty much everything about twilight and are expecting a guide with a wealth of new information that has never been revealed before, you will be disappointed. However, if, like me, you've only read the books a couple of times and seen the films, then this is a very valuable addition to your collection.

Hope this helps!
