From the age of seven, when he read about George Mallory's 1924 ascent of Everest in his "Hotspur" comic, Brian Blessed dreamed of following in Mallory's footsteps. At the age of fifty-three, accompanied by a camera crew, he realized that dream. Wearing the same type of clothing as Mallory, and without oxygen, Blessed reached 26,3000 feet - 2,000 feet below the summit - and turned back only under pressure from the Chinese Government. An excellent book that starts from the dream of Everest through to the final attempt.
Well worth reading and the personality of Brian Blessed is deep through the book

Here is an actor who has a lifetime`s ambition of climbing Everest in the footsteps of his heroes Mallory and Irvine . An excellent ambition that he manages to fulfil by setting up a filmed expedition sponsored by the BBC and others. This is the written tale of that expedition. Unfortunately this story has too much of Brian Blessed , the over the top actor with his many quotes, namedropping and other loud + childish characteristics spoiling what really could have been a ripping yarn. A very disappointing and irritating read.
