Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Imagine a world in which no one can lie. Now try to imagine the consequences. Halperin has written this generation's 1984. Only time will tell whether Halperin's book is speculative fiction, or inverse history. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I strongly recommend that you don't let this one get away. The Truth Machine is in a league of it's own - much better than The Immortal. I can't remember the last time I was this moved by a book or a movie for that matter. Halperin describes a truly fascinating and believable scenario: What does it take to build a Truth Machine and what effect could it have on our way of living! I'm not usually a big fan of prophecies and predictions about the future but this book really has some unique observations about the possible consequences of the introduction of a truth machine to the world. You will be surprised at the end (I know I was).

A fantastic book 29 Jan 2003
By George
Format:Paperback
I read this book after having read The First Immortal and i think that was ideal. But even on it's own it was a fantastic read - totally gripping and hard to put down. it examines every aspect of human nature - trust, faith, loyalty, good, evil and shows how feasible it is that the world could end up like it did in the book.........but for the better? I really recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good read - it'll make you laugh, cry, get angry and want to put the world to rights.

This is an excellent example of speculative fantasy, and a gripping read, too. I had to finish it once started, despite minor things like needing to earn a living and such! The Truth Machine examines what might happen over the next 50 years if society could be transformed by honesty, and includes some fascinating extrapolation based around current political thinking. It doesn't ignore characters or drama, either, and I genuinely had no idea what the outcome would be in the final chapter.

Loved it. Would read more by this author without hesitation. Can't find any other titles!
