Product Description

'In the latest crop of chick-lit beach reads...Grace Wynne-Jones comes out top with her quirky new novel 'The Truth Club'. Her characterisation is always amusing and the plot is delivered with warmth and a healthy sense of the ridiculous...it's Ms Wynne-Jones's cutesy sense of humour that makes this book so tasty.' - The Sunday Independent

The Truth Club is a tender, wry look at families, truth and love.

Marriage seems to have stirred up all sorts of weird longings in Sally Adams. On the surface she seems to have everything she needs to be happy....so why is she guzzling so many chocolate biscuits and dreaming of elsewhere?

She has good friends, an interesting job and an almost brand new husband. Then a chance encounter with a stranger makes it all too clear that life could have been so different if she had followed her heart. She begins to wonder if the key to fulfillment lies not in the present but in the past.

Over fifty years before, Sally's Great-Aunt DeeDee, the official black sheep of the family, disappeared. When Sally uncovers a scandal that has left deep fault lines in her family she begins to understand the legacy of lies and secrets that are echoed in her complicated relationship with her sister, April. As she unravels the mystery she begins to see what she has been hiding from. And she learns that to be who she truly is and to find her soul mate, she must be honest...and she must be brave.

5.0 out of 5 stars A moving and funny tale 3 Oct 2007
By Dennis
Format:Paperback
This is a moving and funny tale and a mystery story to boot. Aa the cover suggests, The Truth Club is aimed at the 'women's fiction' market, but as a mere male I was taken by Grace Wynne-Jones' fourth novel. There are hilarious passages - rooted, like all good comic writing, in close observation of her characters, for whom she has an obvious sympathy.
Of course her husband doesn't understand her and the tall handsome Other Man is remote and seemingly unattainable, but in Wynne-Jones' hands this makes for some hilarious passages. The secondary characters are also beautifully drawn, not least the husband of her best friend and confidante,Fiona, and the confidante herself. Wynne-Jones is well known for being laugh-out-loud funny, I think, but this book goes deeper into the characters than in her previous work, and the central plot of Sally uncovering the great family mystery of her Great Aunt Dee-Dee keeps one curious to the end. Yeah, I enjoyed it a lot.

4.0 out of 5 stars sweet and gentle 21 Aug 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
There is a lovely soft Irish pace to the novel - but that is also one of the reasons for the lack of a fifth star - I did have to skim read when I got bored.

But overall the characters are interesting - there are plenty of smiles - nothing laugh out loud funny but more smiley endearing type funny - a very complex family that has hidden a mass of secrets for years and this tale unwinds them all.

The calibre of the writing is brilliant without a doubt and I will be reading another of her books soon I am sure. I just wish I hadn't felt so keen on skimming passages to hurry the story along.

But if nothing else this is worth reading just to enjoy excellent writing and some lovely characters.
