It's an easy mistake to make, choosing this DVD over the better know version from Dreamworks with only one letter difference in the title. We did in the supermarket as we tried to get round as quickly as possible! As a result I'd start off by giving credit to Amazon for the title here stating clearly that it is NOT the Dreamworks version.

If you're a fan of French (or what I think of as more "arty") movies you'll probably enjoy this. If so, I also recommend you watch "Dragon Hunters". If not - AVOID!

We got about 20 minutes in before we gave up.

- The French take on the story line is dreadful
- The animation is average (at best)
- The singing princess is a pain and the songs are average (and in French)
- The dubbing isn't great

My advice, don't waste £4*. In fact NEVER BUY!

Shockingly bad animation, thought this was a sort of Shrek prequel until I got home and realised the animation was nothing like the dreamworks animation. The front cover is very misleading as the cat has some sort resemblance to the actual puss in boots. The acting (although only voices) seems below par, the songs are all in French which resulted in my son screwing up his face as he didn't know what was actually being sung. To me it was a waste of money as I am only 20 minutes in and want to bin it and deem it a waste of money.

I did notice it was not the Dreamworks one, but decided to take a chance and wished I hadn't.
I didn't get far into in before giving up, I just couldn't take anymore of it.

The story and voices I just couldn't stand, I gave up during the princess singing or would have smashed the TV with something.
I did try to see if it got better but you can only take so much.

What I seen of it, the story is week and thrown together and the voices seemed to be picked to grate on your nerves.
Kids might like it, but your better off out of the room when they watch it, not a film for adults or older children

Yes, I too made the mistake of thinking this was Dreamworks version of Puss in Boots, but was fully prepared to give it a go anyway. However the dreadful music, right from the opening scenes, the second rate animation and weird characterisation made me switch off after about 20 minutes. I know Dreamworks did not create the character of Puss out of thin air and was quite impressed that Perrault, the great French fairy tale storyteller, was going to feature as a character, but I just found the whole thing unbearable and rather cringe-worthy. In short, avoid like the plague and spend a bit more on the Shrek-spin off!

The animation on this film is reasonably good and it has a modern standard. However the film is not Great.
First of all the character Puss is not the same Puss in Boots character as in the Shrek films. This is dispite a Strong similarity in the artwork and costume displayed on the front cover.
In fact this production has nothing to do with the Shrek productions and it has to be said the animation is not as good as the Shrek animation.
The film has its own merits as an alternative interpretation of a fairytale telling of the story of Puss in Boots. And if it hadn't been for Shrek we would probably think this was a good movie.
But it isn't a movie classic.
Also I am not sure that this is suitable for very young viewers as some of the characters are a bit ugly and could be frightening.
The whole production seems to be European in style of animation. And I suspect this has been dubbed English.
Finally the story is not that exciting either and it drags on way too long.
Generally this DVD is a wasted opportunity. It appears to have strong possibilities but sags badly.
Don't waste your money on this. Go for the Shrek related Puss in Boots release instead.

Nope, it isn't Dreamworks, but the attempt to a tell a story is ok. I like the art and the music in the film, because they used classical pieces. However, the cat is annoying and the story doesn't always flow perfectly. I think children would like this film, but I think adults will be too annoyed about the flaws. So, three stars from me. If only the makers of this film would work out the story a bit better, it would be a great film.

Bought this thinking it was the real dream works thing. We turned it off after about 15min. Terrible animation and songs and story. A waste of money and sneaky marketing ploy.

Firstly I don't think this film claims to be related to shrek in any way, Puss in boots is a very old story which was around long before shrek was.
secondly the film itself really wasn't that bad, the animation was ok and the story acceptable , it was obviously dubbed but this has been done quite well, My kids liked it and I'm sure most will, I thought it was pretty good to, not in the league of shrek but ok none the less.
