How can I cure my dog of his annoying habit? Why does he do it? Is it ok to mix dogs and children? Should I have him neutered? How do I make him understand what I mean? In "The Trouble-free Dog" Robert Alleyne, a leading canine behavioral trainer and a trainer in the popular BBC3 series "Dog Borstal", teaches you how to communicate with your dog. Having acquired this skill, you will then be able to prevent worrying behavioral problems occurring or solve those your dog already has. However, as well as dealing with your pet's psychological needs, the book also covers all the physical aspects of caring for your dog: from maintaining him in good health to the legal responsibilities of being a dog owner. Also included are numerous informative and entertaining case histories which demonstrate the wide variety of problems that can actually occur.

Rob writes with common sense and love for all dogs. He trains them with kindness and understanding and that is what we all should be doing. He gives simple advice and shows the reasons behind it. Every dog owner should be given this book as compulsory and they should listen to what Rob says and do what he advises! He makes it clear that dogs do not understand English, they only understand that you are angry or happy and react accordingly. When owners say "My dog knew he was wrong", well actually he didn't! He knew you were angry but didn't know why. Rob tells you everything you need to know, simply. Think about it from the dog's point of view and understand that you have to teach the dog what the English words mean, before they will understand them! Great work; great person.
Whilst full of sound information written by someone who clearly knows about dogs, I had hoped for a more specific approach, which would offer me a How to..... guide. So don't look to this book to achieve your trouble-free dog, it will only give you generalised cameos of problems rather than help you identify exactly what your dog's problem is and how to fix it. I guess this is because dog trainers/behaviourists want you to employ their services and pay big bucks for them.
This is an excellent book, easy to read and understand with many real life practical examples of problem dogs with the rationale behind the problem and the potential remedies. I am quickly becoming to understand just why my dogs do what they do and why and its also enjoying to read without falling asleep on the train :)
Robert Alleyne is an excellent and very knowledgable dog and handler trainer. He makes you look at training a pet dog with a different point of view. This book is easy to read, gives lots of very good methods and the rationale behind them. I highly recommend this product whether you are a novice dog owner/trainer or have many years of experience I can guarantee that you will find this book an enjoyable and understandable read.
