I don't think this book ever made it to the US market (I read it as a child in Britsh parts of the Caribbean) but it was the funniest, most memorable book of my early childhood. The Trouble With Mum is one of the very few books on the market that satisfies children's desires for smart, subversive humor, and the prose is brilliant, almost lyrical. Twenty years later, I can still recite the text of the book, word for word. I'm 26 now, and I'm buying myself a copy--even though it's going to cost me a fortune to get it shipped from the UK. It's worth it! (I never even realized there were more books in the series. I may have to order those, too.)
