This CD has potential. It helps understand just about all of the sounds of hte trombone. Alan Trudel is a great performer. He has all it takes. He explains through his music just about all of the things a trombone and it's player can ocamplish. I have a major collection of trombone cd's and this is at the top 7.

This is a tremendously satisfying set of recordings of the trombone and organ. I am going to particularly mention three tracks. First Holst's 'Duet for Trombone and Organ'. Since Holst was a trombone player he knows what the instrument is capable of. This is an early work and full of promise of the good things to come. Then - the Liszt 'Hosannah'. This is played on the bass trombone. Oh the depth and majesty of this glorious sound - awesome! The Belcke 'Fantasia' shows off to full effect many things that the trombone can do - whooping and blaring and singing. I have to listen repeatedly - what rapture of joy. The next statement is not critical but simply factual. The balance of the recording pushes the trombone playing of Alain Trudel to the fore and makes the organ an accompaniment. This is a strength rather than a weakness. This recording is trully labelled as 'The Art of the Trombone'. I admire this greatly.

Excellent Performances! 10 Nov. 2002
By Chuck - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
As a trombonists, sometimes hearing solos over piano accompaniment gets stale. Hearing trombone and organ play Morceau Symphonique is a refreshing change! The organ has many textures as opposed to piano's one clank-clank texture. All the pieces on this set are worth listening to over and over. If you're a trombonist, buy this CD! If you're an organist looking for a different sound to organ accompanying, buy it also! How often do you see a combination like this?

Superb display of the trombone's performance capabilities 22 Aug. 2001
By Michael Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
The Art of the Trombone presents a tremendous display of the capacity that the trombone holds for solo repertoire. Alan Trudel is certainly one of the world's most talented performers of the trombone, and Patrick Wedd's organ accompaniment provides a sound that is seldom heard with trombone. While the literature presented on the cd may lack the diversity provided by cds such as the London Trombone Sound and some of Lindberg's, I am thouroughly satisfied with the outcome that has been achieved, it certainly fulfilled the producer's desire to illustrate the trombone's abilities as an eloquent and expressive instrument. This cd is an excellent representation of the capacities of a solo trombone, and I would recommend it to anyone with the slightest interest in low brass instrumental work.

Great CD 20 May 2002

This is a great CD that showcases two instruments that are often overlooked in solo work. The trombone and organ blend remakabley well and Trudel does a supurb job of showing off the instrument.
One of my favorite trombone albums 31 Jan. 2010
By M. Wilson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This is one of my favorite, if not my most favorite, trombone albums. I played and loved the trombone because of it's range. On one end, you've got a powerhouse. On another, you've got a beautiful singing tone that some liken as being close to the human voice. Trudel, of course, displays this range well. And Patrick Wedd, on organ, keeps up perfectly. In my opinion, trombone and organ are a match made in heaven. And this shows perfectly on some of my personal favorites: Holst's 'Duet for Trombone and Organ' (track 1) and especially Liszt's 'Hosannah' (track 6). 'Hosannah' actually has Trudel on bass trombone, and the result is awesome.
