5.0 out of 5 stars An Fascinating Read 4 Sep 2003
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
Like all of sir David's books The Trials of Life exposes the natural world in ways you cannot imagine. Each chapter is on a different aspect of an animal's life such as migration, living in a group, homemaking, escaping predators, hunting & even how different species can benefit from each other such as the cleaner wrasse getting rid of the parasites from visiting fish. The wrasse gets a meal , the fish get relief.I wont reveal more because if your interested in animal behaviour then you should buy this book & learn how the creatures we share our world can be so fascinating and magnificant.
The photography is amazing , how do they get that close ? Whether you are new to wildlife or had a life long fascination I recommend this book even though it can be hard to find. David Attenborough's books always are as enthralling as the series they accompany as you always learn something new about our friends from the animal kingdom. Other books from David Attenborough I have read are Life on Earth, The Living Planet, The Life of Birds & The Life of Mammals. All are wonderfully written with beautiful photography. I highly recommend anything written or presented by him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Trials of Life 8 Nov 2008
By Spider Monkey HALL OF FAME TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover
'Trials of Life' is another superb book by Attenborough looking at animal and plant behaviour that aids in their survival. Like all of his books his style is extremely easy to read and you are soon drawn in to the fascinating lives of the various animals he describes. Throughout the book you get one page of text and another full page of the most stunning photography you are ever likely to see and occasionally you'll get a double spread for a particularly impressive image. This looks at animal behaviour in relation to eating, reproduction, fighting, finding shelter, making friends and a whole range of other traits besides. As part of the Attenborough collection this can't be missed, but it is well worth a look in it's own right and makes for a couple days of informative and completely engrossing reading. The wonder of nature has rarely been so well presented, and yet we've become used to that from Attenborough and anything less would be a let down. This more than lives up to this high standard.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bought for daughter. 21 Oct 2013
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
My daughter has just started an animal management course which covers all aspects of animal behaviour. She was quite young when this programme came out, but she is finding the book very informative and is enjoying reading it.

The book arrived promptly and was packaged well. I would use this seller again.

5.0 out of 5 stars David's the Best! 2 May 2000
By RAY L ROBINSON - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
David Attenborough is the best science populizer in the subject of biology bar none! He rates, and deserves to rate, up with Carl Sagan and Isaac Asimov (even Isaac rated David's work highly). Find this book. Read it and add 'Life on Earth,''The Living Planet,' and 'The Private Life of Plants' to your permanent library.

4.0 out of 5 stars About 'The Trials of Life'. 27 Jan 2000
By "ota@iopb.res.in" - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
'The trials of life' is one of the several books written by David Attenborough on similar topic. The book is about living beings (except humans). The book is colorful and it will be nice to keep it in a nice bookshelf. Some of the paragraphs are dull. This is compensated to some extent by excellent color photographs. Some of the pages are sad. Some pages give rise to curiosity. I wish that you will never see this book. By S.B.Ota.
