Product Description

Product Description

In the temple of Abydos, an acacia tree is dying. Its death threatens all of Egypt. For this tree sprang forth from the tomb of the god Osiris, the first ruler of Egypt, as proof of his triumph over death. The great pharaoh Senusret III immediately joins battle against the invisible enemy who would lead Egypt to her doom. But within his closest circle hides a traitor, a man who would sell himself to the powers of darkness in order to achieve his dreams of glory. A young apprentice scribe, Iker, becomes an unwilling player in this mystery. Kidnapped by sailors who refer darkly to a 'state secret', Iker does not know who is trying to kill him, nor indeed who is trying to protect him. He senses only that someone is manipulating him, that he has set out on a road whose end he does not know. Will the two of them, Iker and Senusret, the weak young boy and the great man of power, succeed in preventing Osiris from dying for the last time, thereby saving Egypt?

Yet another excellent book from Christian Jacq. For anyone with a love of ancient Egypt, Jacq once again portrays historical fact with wonderful fiction.

A great read and not to be put down from start to finish. I can't wait for the second in the series. If you haven't already, have a look at his other books including the Ramses series.

This author has in the past produced superb stories from Ancient Egypt that I have really enjoyed and as another reviewer says 5 star but I was really disappointed with this one.
Obviously if this story was translated from French, so were the others but who ever did this one made a poor job almost like a schoolboy's literal translation without thought to the way the story should flow. Sorry but I will not be trying the others in the series...a pity because I was looking forward to the series.

Firstly let me say I am a huge fan of Jacq, and would give all the other series he has written five stars. This review is for the whole MOO series, as I wait untill all books in a series are released so I can read them one after the other - effectively reading one large book. I therefore have waited impatiently for the last one so I can read them. But I was very disappointed with these books. Firstly I found them for the most part predictable, with similar plots to his other books. Secondly, I felt that there was far too much time spent on descibing rituals etc and not enough effort on the plot. Thirdly, there is far more magic in this series, and whilst there has always been magic in his books, the heroes generally succeed by using their intelligence, not by pulling another trinket out of their pocket to smite the enemy.
As I said, - love Jacq, love egyptology, but this one was a miss for me. Lets hope the new series will be better.
