4.0 out of 5 stars Classical SciFi! 3 July 2014
By R. James Stevens - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
I was given The Treaty of Nine Part 1 by the author in exchange for an honest review.

I'll start by making a nice, lofty statement: Author Adam Train is a wordsmith. He effortlessly paints his worlds with vibrant adjectives, and structures his

paragraphs in a very classical sense. I say classical because he reminds me of one H.G. Wells in his method of storytelling. That's a hard thing to do, and most of

the industry, whether Indie or Traditional, tend to shy away from it. I appreciate the effort though, as I was raised on classical education and I tend to write in

the same tone. Good job, Mr. Train.

The story is about the battle for Mars between the colonies allied with Earth and a warlike alien tribe known as the Krahl'Kahn. It's never easy to build a world that

is so alien (pun intended) to what we know today without having to go through a lot of backstory, or throwing the reader into the fire and alienating them. However,

the author does a laudable job at both. He offers the backstory throughout the first portion of the book, which helps the rest feel organic; but yet he also tosses

the reader right in the middle of the action from the get-go.

While the story itself is typical SciFi space opera-esque, the way that Train tells it just makes it come alive for me. The polish - it's there. I had a hard time

finding any issues with the structure of this story, whether grammatical or editorial. It was light on dialogue, but with such richly detailed passages, who needs

dialogue?

I'm going to give this one a 4, because I find it hard to give a portion of a story a full 5-star rating. That's no slam on the author - he did a splendid job; but

I'd like to see the entire story play out before I render my final opinion.

'The Treaty of Nine - part I' is an enjoyable short story. I think the thing I liked the most was the description of he Krahl’Kahn. It was very vivid and I could easily pictured them in my head. It's definitely a story worth checking out.

I really enjoyed this book. It read smoothly, there seemed to be no glaring mistakes. The story was incredibly interesting and is about an issue that one day mankind may have to address. Enjoy the read, you will love it.
