HASH(0xa186ff54) out of 5 stars The name on everybody's lips is gonna be---TOXIE! 10 July 2009
By Patricia Stringer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
If you were to combine "The Rocky Horror Show", "Flaming Carrot Comics"
and "Weird New Jersey Magazine", you'd get something very like "The Toxic Avenger Musical". And that's a good thing.

Broadway veteran Joe DiPietro and Bon Jovi's own David Bryan have literally created a monster--a rock 'n' roll musical that's outrageous,
endearing, and just plain fun. Who wouldn't love a show that features tunes like "Big Green Freak", "Hot Toxic Love" and "Choose Me, Oprah"?

Nick Cordero is in fine voice as the unlikely superhero who knows better than even Kermit the Frog that it's not easy being green. Sara Case is appealing as his love interest, a blind librarian (proof that we're a long way from "the Music Man"). Nancy Opel displays her versatility
by playing three very different characters and at one point singing a duet with herself.

The show is deliberately cheesy and low-tech, but that only adds to its campy blue-collar charm. You'll find yourself laughing and singing along as Toxie and company save New Jesey.

Warning: Do not operate machinery or a motor vehicle while listening to this CD. You'll be laughing too hard.

Let's do the slime warp again!

HASH(0xa20919f0) out of 5 stars NOTHING TOXIC HERE....JUST PURE HILARITY 15 May 2009
By Robert F. Powers - Published on Amazon.com

The Toxic Avenger was a cheesy cult movie produced by Troma, the cheesiest movie factory in New Jersey. Or anywhere else for that matter.

Melvin Ferd the third and a nerd is dumped into a barrel of toxic waste and becomes Toxie the green, gooey avenger of mankind or at least New Jersey. He rescues a young girl named Sarah from some goons and she falls madly in love with her saviour who she calls "My Big French Boyfriend". Toxie is smitten with Sarah and is thrilled someone cares for him despite his monsterous deformity and as he sings, "Thank God, She's Blind".

The music is rock-loud rock-noisy rock- but unfortunatly most of the tunes sound alike but coming to the rescue are the twisted, and very funny lyrics. With titles like "Get The Geek", "Hot Toxic Love" "Big Green Freak" "Choose Me, Oprah" or "Bitch/Slut/Liar/Whore" you shouldn't be expecting "My Fair Lady"-like songs.

The cast of five with the exception of Toxie and Sarah play multiple roles and Nancy Opel as the evil Mayor of Tromaville and others is a standout.

Newcomer, Nick Cordero as Toxie acquits himself quite well and he has a hilarious sob song "You Tore My Heart Out".

While I have reservations of the score as a whole I am sure they come across much better seen in the context of the performed show.

HASH(0xa4de79a8) out of 5 stars TOXIC AVENGER IS AWESOME 14 Sept. 2009

The music in this show is wonderful and funny and clever and was a great reminder of the actual show I saw in NYC. The performances are top notch and made me relive all the hysterical scenes in the show. Its a little easier if youve seen the show to know whats going on in the songs, but still as enjoyable if you havent. Nancy Opal is hysterical and her two-characters in the same scene song is a masterpiece...GO SEE THIS SHOW...
HASH(0xa4de7d2c) out of 5 stars Beware of Toxie! 28 Jun. 2010

In recent years some great off-Broadway shows have been produced mixing cult films and non-stage subject matters: Zombie Prom, Zanna Don't, Evil Dead The Musical. I am glad to add this one to my growing collection of unorthodox stage shows. The rock songs are infectious with great lyrics. Nancy Opel does a great job playing three parts and singing a duet as two of them. It's a darn fun listen!
