Review

'Lauren Goldstein Crowe and Sagra Maceira de Rosen have taken a GBP500 stiletto and used it to burst the bubble of hot air and secrecy that surrounds the business of selling luxury goods' Toby Young, author of How to Lose Friends and Alienate People 'There is nothing sexier than a confident, intelligent woman. For the last decade, Lauren Goldstein Crowe and Sagra Maceira de Rosen have impressed the fashion and business worlds with their thoughtful critiques and analysis of the fashion industry. Together they make a formidable team' Tom Ford, former Creative Director of Gucci Group 'In my tenure as the CEO of Gucci, I had dealings with literally hundreds of journalists. Lauren Goldstein Crowe was, without a doubt, the one who was best able to convey the crazy world of luxury goods at a crazy time to a general interest reader. Sagra Maceira de Rosen equally stood out as the only luxury goods analyst who understood that it takes more to make this business tick than a good spreadsheet' Domenico De Sole, former CEO of Gucci Group

This book is ok if you're interested in the business side of luxury brands however there isn't much in the way of first hand accounts, quotes from Tamara and Jimmy are few and far between.

The story also goes wildly off on a tangent about the M&A market post 9/11 which is distracting and unnessary.

The authors picked the wrong protagonists 25 Aug 2009
By Judith Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I had read that Jimmy Choo felt that his business had been stolen from him so I thought it would be interesting to know more about his company. The background is fascinating but not related all that well in The Towering World of Jimmy Choo.

Don't get me wrong, parts of this book are absorbing as it examines the story of two UK immigrants: Jimmy Choo, the Asian skilled shoemaker and Tom Yeardye, an Irishman with a keen nose for business deals. The chapters I found most fascinating was how high-end shoes are made, the nuts and bolts of the English and Italian shoe manufacturing business.

However, the story unfolds in a circuitous flashback fashion from the perspective of Tamara Yeardye, Tom's daughter. Not to take away from Ms. Yeardye's creativity and entrepreneurial spark but without the business acumen and connections of Yeardye and Mr. Choo's craftsmanship, I don't believe Tamara could have ever created the brand.
