Product Description

Learn to speak the language of your dreams...

We all dream, but our dreams often seem to be bizarre and confusing experiences that make little sense to us, no matter how much we try to analyse them. The key to understanding our dreams is looking beyond individual symbols and being able to see the bigger picture in the stories that we choose to create every night. There are 100 of these dream themes that are consistently reported by dreamers everywhere in the world, regardless of country or culture.

These top 100 dreams appear again and again because they reflect fundamental life patterns. By recognising them, you will begin to achieve a much deeper understanding of your dreams and yourself. The Top 100 Dreams explains why you dream them, and suggests how you can use them to help you realise your most cherished hopes and aspirations in everyday life.

The Top 100 Dreams is a fantastic book! Unlike many dream books that I've read, it's very clearly written and really well structured. I particularly like that the author used the consistent format of describing the dream, explaining its meaning and then suggesting really clear actions to take to use the information from the dream. As he says "A dream is just a dream until you put it into action."

One of the challenges I used to have with interpreting my dreams was the conflicting symbol descriptions in many dream dictionaries. As I read this book I was delighted to see that Ian Wallace gives actual proven cultural and psychological backgrounds to the dream symbols and patterns that we all encounter.

As well as the description of the most common 100 dreams in Dream, Meaning, Action and Background format, there is a wealth of information about why we dream and what dreams actually are. Again this is based on solid evidence, rather than the usual unfounded speculation of most other dream books.

At last - a proper dream book for the 21st century! Ian Wallace has produced a really superb insight into the dreams we all have and what they really mean.

From my work as a behavioural psychologist specialising in the human unconscious, I know that there are currently about 3,500 dream books for sale on Amazon and I have had the misfortune to read most of them! Many of these books are rehashes of the nonsensical `10,000 Dreams Interpreted' by Gustavus Hindman Miller. The reason that Miller's book is still so widely available is not because it offers information of any value but the fact that it is out of copyright and so is very cheap to print and produce. Even the perennial bedside favourite, Stearn Robinson's `The Dreamer's Dictionary' is largely influenced by Miller's work and so is of very little practical use either.

The reason that Wallace's work is so refreshing is that he actually works professionally with dreamers on a daily basis and correlates their dream activity with what is happening in their everyday lives. I heard him say on Radio 4 the other day that he has worked with around 140,000 dreams in his 30 year career as a practising psychologist and his vast experience is certainly evident in this book. This evidence-based approach is in sharp contrast to most of the bizarre theories concocted by dream researchers in their pursuit of academic funding, or even worse, just copying information from other dream books in the hope of making a fast buck.

The fact that Wallace actually works with dreamers rather than just observing the dream activity has given him great insight into why we dream and what dreams actually are. One of the key discoveries he has made is in challenging the widely held assumption that dreams are something that happens to us. According to Wallace the reverse is actually true. Instead of dreams happening to us, we happen to dreams - we create absolutely everything in the dream. This finding takes Wallace's work beyond the theories of Freud and Jung and opens up a whole new understanding of how we create not just our dreams but also how we create our perceptions of the world around us in everyday life.

If I had any complaints to make about this book it would be that it is not nearly long enough! There are some really interesting areas that Wallace describes, such as `Your Dream Life', `Your Dream Relationships' and `Your Dream Body'. I would like to know more about these in greater depth but I guess I will just have to wait for his next book! Until then, `The Top 100 Dreams' is in a league of its own, a clear and beautifully written book that really helps you to understand your dreams and make practical use of them.
