We only received this book a couple of days ago but already my toddler & I have done some lovely things suggested in the book. Our favourites so far have included: - freezing small toys and flowers in ice cubes and watching them melt in the bath, - making wonderful pictures by dipping a golf ball in paint and rattling the ball around in an old shoe box, - and, very simply, sticking masking tape to the carpet to make a pathway and walking along hand-in-hand singing.

Waste of money 19 Feb 2010
Format:Paperback
Oh dear - I am really disappointed with this book.
I read the positive reviews and was really excited to be filled with new inspiration for fun with my toddler, but I just got the book & had a quick flick through - and I give you a quote "Give your toddler a box of tissues and let them pull them out one by one"! or "Blowing bubbles with bought bubble mix & straws" or "Finger painting" or "Fill a baloon with helium and let the toddler watch it go up & down" or "ask your toddler "Can you find your knee" or "bath time play - fill bath tub with water and put plastic toys in" or finally "as you drive along recite a nursery rhyme" I mean really it actually makes me laugh. So to be to the point - if you are a normal Mum you will have already thought about 85% of what is in this book - and the other 15% is so messy you might not want to do it. Save your money.

I come back to this book again and again. The people who criticise it are, as they admit, already doing these things with their toddlers. Though I doubt it... there are so many good activities. The fact is, most of us are not doing these things - other things and the older children get more attention.

The beauty of the book is that you can quickly look through and something will leap out at you. Or maybe you decide that you'll do an activity, but tailor it to your family in certain ways...

I have an older child and this book reminds me to let the toddler be a toddler - not an issue if this is your first, but a toddler's needs can get squeezed out, and this is the remedy.

Highly recommended.

ok
from the reviews of this book I was expecting a little bit more. The book is ok, if you have very little imagination and are generally suck as to what to do with a bored toddler. Read more

Toddler activity book
This is a useful book which has some good ideas for entertaining toddlers although better suited to 2+ as some of the crafty ideas are a bit too complicated

Full of ideas!
Fantastic resource for childcarers and parents. You have to ignore its Canadian-ness and improvise
products if you don't recognise the names eg liquid tempera paint. Read more
