Format: Paperback
This comic-book adaptation starts off in the middle of a rescue mission, with no explanation of why the heroes are there, or any attempt to identify who-is-who, which is really necessary in this volume as the character’s faces are not well-enough defined to recognise in many panels. The story quickly becomes a series of episodic adventures, again with very little explanation, if any, of what has led up to this point. This is definitely NOT a stand-alone story, and if you haven’t read the previous volumes, you are likely to be all at sea – I have read the previous two graphic adaptations, but can’t remember what leads into this story. It might be that the original story was too big to comfortably fit into this adaption.

Anyway, the heroes rescue two children form a villain, who is part of the big conspiracy to topple the Olympians. Annabeth goes missing during the rescue, and Artemis goes looking for her. Back at Camp Halfblood, an oracle pops up and sends five characters off on a quest to rescue the missing two. They have a series of adventures before confronting the bad guys, and discover the real identity of the two children thet rescued at the start…

It doesn’t sound like much of a plot, but it is a fairly complicated one, with many mythological references. It is definitely in the spirit of the previous books, but suffers from trying to cram too much into too little space.

Close to the novel rather than the film and very excellent graphics and pace of story throughout, It has the usual teenage angst and mixes it with humour and times of real terror, Catches the triumphs and tribulations of beng a demi god and is a very good read, Look forward to the next one.

Another great episode - desperate for the next book now we've finished this. Love Bob and Little Bob in this instalment. As always great humour and adventure.
