Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Most people will admit to taking a wrong turn, missing a motorway exit or circling round some strange city's endless one-way system at some point in their driving career. This is why the Times GB Routeplanner is likely to have universal appeal. It should mean that never again will you have to stare at a map in a small country lane, late at night, wondering where on earth you are.

The package comes with street level maps for every town in the UK (like having an A-Z for the entire country). Once users have entered the journey they intend to make, the program will select the quickest route and also provide detailed directions that you can print out or e-mail to family and friends. The graphics and maps are clear and easy to decipher, highly detailed and very user-friendly and the software also fastens on traffic black-spots and lets you know to avoid them. It even calculates an average journey time and the amount of money you can expect to spend on petrol.

With all this information plus seven different scales of mapping, this software might be accused of information overload. However, in this case the detail is well justified. Many people get driven around the bend by confused directions or wrong turnings, so smoothing out these problems is surely worth the effort. --Toby Green

Route Planner 31 Dec 2002
By A Customer
At first glance, a useful package of features. However on closer scrutiny, this was disappointing. Whilst the 'zoom in' feature could be very useful, it was of concern that the street maps were not up to date - with absence of residential roads which were built as many as 4 years ago! A few land marks would have been of use. The instructions are over detailed, and in parts, lack in referral to main A roads, indicating tun left' or 'right' When checking a familiar route, I was indirectly routed to the main A road. For a different journey, a very cross-country route was suggested when a more direct route was appropriate. I shall not be relying on this planner for routes, but as a general reference for locating towns etc, it may have some use.

This product is far too limited for anyone doing multi visit/drop journeys. It only allows two intermediate stops in a route! It does not employ the Post Office post code database for finding places. It does not show the M6 Toll route. If you are used to using Microsoft Autoroute this is not for you.
