From the Back Cover

Times History of the World is an enduring classic of world publishing. First published in 1978, this remarkable book has changed our way of viewing history. Its intelligent, accessible and visually sumptuous treatment by over 100 of the world’s leading historians brings the drama of history to the page in a way never previously attempted and never matched since. Its coverage is geniunely global, its conception never less than daring, its mapping consistently stunning, its texts clear, accessible and superbly well informed. Page by page, continent by continent, era by era, the full sweep of human history is revelaed in enthralling detail.

This new edition sees the most far-reaching and dramatic changes yet. Every spread has been redesigned and rewritten, every map and chart extensively reviewed and updated. There is expanded treatment of China, Japan and southeast Asia from the earliest civilizations to today’s rapidly evolving regions. The coverage of the United States has been strengthened to allow more material on the post-War period while that on the 20th century has been reorganized to reflect new historical perspectives and the dramatic events of this revolutionary century. The result is a work unequalled in its authority, quality and imagination, a masterly overview of the endlessly absorbing story of humanity.

Format: Hardcover
This enormous slipcased volume provides a huge, comprehensive coverage for students of world history at all levels, from upper school years to undergraduate level, with double page spreads devoted to every age and region of the world, with detailed entries, numerous maps, illustrations and photos from a team of academic historians; there are also webpage references on each page for further research and reading for students and the general reader. It's the best history atlas I've bought by far, wonderful!

Format: Hardcover
This is a great book if you want to quickly glance over different periods of history (from 3000BC Sumer to the present day) and build up on your general knowledge. The pages have a nice feel, the content has the right balance of text and images and the colours are well chosen. As you would expect it is a heavy book but it's measurements mean that it doesn't fit on the shelves of my book case!

Format: Hardcover
This massive tome (first published in 1978)is the 1999 edition.
History is divided into 6 sections as follows,
1)human origins and early cultures
2)the first civilisations
3)the classicalcivilisation of Eurasia
4)the world of divided regions
5)the world of the emerging west and
6)the age of European dominance.
The time coverage is from pre history to the 1990s
All very well written and researched bby multiple authors. The map and illustrations are first class while the chronology from c7000BC to the mid 1990s is outstanding.
Every thing you will ever need to know about history is in this book.

Format: Hardcover
this book is a bit like a glance at history, something to get you going. somewhere to start with each subject as there is nothing in depth in it. however saying that, the diagrams are hugely useful. not worth the RRP but worth it if you can get one for about £[] max ( warning! dont read in bed, you will never be able to see the top sentence from a prone position, and heaven help you if you nod off while reading it as it may cause concussion)
