This calendar cookbook was the first proper cookbook I bought and has remained a stalwart of harmonious, unpretentious cooking ever since. In these later 'green-aware' times, how prescient she was to write recipes using produce in season. With soft, gentle line drawings and clear instructions, this book is a charming guide to good, tasty recipes which always work. Katie Stewart is a cook who uses her intelligence and knowledge rather than glitzy publicity or exotic ingredients to produce excellent encouragement to novices and 'old hands' alike.

Someone bought this book for me many years ago, and I bought it for a relative.

It divides up the year into months, gives a wide range of cooking ideas for every time of year and gives excellent recipes for an assortment of occasions. Because you are buying food in season, it is very easy to buy at its best and the cost is lower than at other times of year. If you want ideas for a meal for someone you love and respect, this is a good place to find it. Often miserable winter days do not seem very encouraging for a friend's visit. I have woken up on a hot day and looked for something completely different. This is the book to go to. It sits happily alongside Prue Leith, Delia, Nigel and fills the gaps admirably, and some of its recipes will find their way into your tattered file of favourites.

A valuable alternative cookbook for our times. Be seasonal. You know it makes sense.

I bought a copy of this book when it was first published quite a few years ago, and it fell apart with constant use. When I saw it was available still, although secondhand, I knew I had to get another copy. Old favourites are now back on the menu.

I bought this as a replacement for my old 30years old copy that fell apart in the middle of making my Christmas puddings from the book. If the first copy fell apart from hard use and I saw fit to replace it - well - what more can I say?

Like Katie Stewart's The Times Cookery Book, this was another must have purchase as my original paperback copy (heavily sellotaped but disintegrating with every page turn, due to almost constant use) had reached the point of no return. Similar to The Times Cookery Book but the recipes are different, and also recipes are presented in a seasonal way, by month, which is helpful when wanting to cook something currently in season.
