Product Description

Designed by Lance Armstrong's personal coach, "The Time-Crunched Cyclist: Fit, Fast, and Powerful in 6 Hours a Week" presents a high-intensity, low-volume training programme that delivers competitive fitness and power without the impossible time demands of conventional approaches. In less than six hours a week, cyclists can develop the snap, endurance, and strength they need to push the pace in the local group ride, have fun and perform well in local races, or tackle a challenging 100-mile fundraiser without committing to a traditional, high-volume training programme. Drawing upon the same programme he designed for 7-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, Olympic and U.S. Cycling Team coach Chris Carmichael shows men and women in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond how to build fitness on a realistic schedule that fits into the busy lives of today's active middle-agers. Complete with training plans, case studies, nutritional guidelines, and success stories, "The Time-Crunched Cyclist" is the book working professionals and parents have been waiting for. There are no shortcuts; the book's plans require dedication to high-intensity workouts that are based on the same principles Carmichael uses to train top-level pros. The payoff is competitive cycling fitness in less time than previously thought possible. Cycling is more fun when you are fit, and now great fitness is achievable for cyclists who thought their best performances evaporated along with their free time. This book is presented in paperback with b&w photographs, charts, and tables throughout.

As a novice to cycling, I bought this out of curiosty, but have found it to be very helpful in understanding some basic information about performance and how the body works in relation to the training needs you plan to exert upon yourself, the training programmes are at the moment a bit out of my league but I have taken the principles and adapted to what I can do and manage at the moment., and will build up to some of the programs in the book at a later date.
Highly recommended reading, and invaluable if you plan to get cycle fit and or do any performace training/riding.

I bought the book about 6 weeks ago and found it very informative, it really gave me the insight I was looking for in training. After reading the the case studies I was very excited to start the EC program. I do all my intervals on my MTN Bike attached to a Turbo and the group rides on the trails. After having done the Experienced Compeditor program for the last 4 weeks and have to say that it has been amazing. I have seen major gains in my stength and Power. I started week 1 using the big chain ring and 16 gear on casette and could only rarely drop into the 13 gear. At the end of the 4th week I find myself drifting into the 11 gear. On group rides my friends have really noticed major gains in my strength and power. I was really looking forward to week 5 but had a fall so I am off my bike for 2 weeks.

Thanks Chris

I'm now in 4th week of new century programme after only coming back to cycling last year following a number of years off my bike. With my first century in another three weeks, this book has been a godsend and has noticeably made a difference. With limited daylight, I have been using it both for trainer with power meter and on road using just a heart/cadence monitor. The training programme adapts well to both, but I can see my next investment being a power meter for the bike on the road, as it is noticeable that heart rate averages do creep up on each interval, but this has meant that I can at least adapt the HR training with this in mind.
I can't see any reason why I will not be using the programmes in here for years to come, especially as following the initial power testing, you make the programmes become very personalised.
The improvements are much more rapid than from the previous endurance training programmes I've used.
I heartily recommend this to anyone else who wants to see their performance improve, whilst restricted by job, commute, family, etc...
