My older kids were fascinated by this story which they read in class when doing the Tudors. They thought the Philosophers Stone was an invention of JKR. They learned that people once really believed in it. In this exciting story - I found it gripping - Topher and Ka, the time-travelling cat, get involved when Queen Elizabeth I orders one of her advisers, scientist and magician Dr Dee, to find the Philosophers Stone - because she wants to know how to turn base metal into gold and to live for ever. It would solve her two main problems - the succession and shortage of money. I'm impressed. Jarman puts the story into his-story. I gather this is a series. I'm going to order the set.

This book is a thrilling, interesting, historical adventure book. I think it would be good for 9+
The main characters are Topher and a ginger cat called Ka. Ka goes time travelling backwards in time. Topher meets Queen Elizabeth 1st who wants the Philosopher's Stone. Will she find the Philosopher's Stone get rich and live for all eternity?
I would recommend it because it is very interesting and historical.

This book is adventurous and mysterious, however it also has interesting information all about the Tudors. It includes the modern times and the Tudors. It includes modern times and terrible Tudor time when cats were hated. Everybody will like this thrilling adventure story especially people who like history and thought provoking mysteries. In this book is an intrepid but very genuine boy called Topher who has an adorable time travelling cat called Ka. Will they find the Philosopher's Stone or suffer the consequences? This book also deals with modern issues like vegetarianism.
You'll get sucked in with the adventure and the description is amazing. I would recommend it to everyone especially people interested in history.
