Well it's about time!!! 18 April 2011
Format:DVD
Starring the fantastic Naka Riisa, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is the live version adaptation from the Yasutaka Tsutsui book of the same name. After her mother is taken to hosiptal Makoto finds a special formula for travelling back in time. Upon her mother's request she journies back into a 1970s Japan in order to meet with a mysterious boy and deliver a secret message to him from her mother. Okay so it all sounds a little 'Life On Mars' and if you loved that series you will also enjoy this as you follow a lovable Makoto bumble about trying to convience everyone she isn't mad but form the future. Of course there are clever and indeed heartbreaking story loops running throughout and you will find that events of the present only become significant after Makoyo's adventures in the past.
There are alot of Japanese films now avalible here in the UK (thank God!!!) and this one is a refeshing addition to those others. If you are looking for blood, fights and bizarreness you won't really find it here but if you want a touching and imaginative tale this will certainly be for you. All I can say is its about time this fantastic peice of Japanese cinema and tha amazing actress Naka Rissa finally had their UK debut!!!

*Note, this is Japanese audio with English subtitles.

I would of never heard of this film being available if it weren't for Amazon recommending me this item, presumably because I purchased 'The Girl Who Leapt Through Time' anime, for some reason I had an impulse to take on this recommendation and purchase it, well I'm so happy I did!

This is a very heart-warming film, it manages to get your emotions all over the place, from sad to happy & even the odd laugh now and then.

If you've seen the anime then undoubtedly you will enjoy this fantastic live-action version, although it's slightly different to the anime of how certain events happened, it doesn't decrease the enjoyment at all.

Overall I'm glad I had bought this film, both me and my sister watched it together and loved every second, it even managed to make both of us cry, I recommend this film to everyone.

A Nice Spin Off. 14 Jun 2011
Format:DVD
Having seen the the Anime Feature The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (Toki Wo Kakeru Shyoujou) I was very keen to see this live action take on the story. Particularly as the main actress who voices Makoto in the Anime (Riisa Naka) is in fact the leading lady in this version.

I should point out that this is not actually a live action remake of the Anime but is in fact a kind of spin off story that has similar elements and feel to the Anime.

I really enjoyed it and there are some great moments in the film - Very amusing points and also some very touching moments. Its also quite nice that this story is not just a remake as it goes back to a different time and its very enjoyable to see Japan in that era.

Is it as good as the Anime? Well, perhaps not but I would still heartily recommend it - particularly if you have seen the anime as it's a nice take on the premise and Riisa Naka is very appealing as the leading lady.

Not quite 5 stars but definitely worth a look. :)
