A wonderful story. An easy to follow plot with some very funny moments. This story covers a range of Literacy and Numeracy objectives. While finding out how long it takes Tom to destroy his house, the author uses a number of 'time' related terms. This opens up a discussion on the different time scales. A simple story idea is to retell the story but substitute the colour. Children write their own story but have a model using the original. My class wrote some super stories, and even the younger (4 years) children could write a short piece using the simple, repeatative pattern. :-)

This is a brilliant book for children. Great rhythm to the story if you are reading it aloud and bright illustrations ( as you would expect from Nick Sharratt) and an introduction to time is almost an afterthought. Highly recommended.

Brilliant introduction to time for my Reception class. They loved the 'naughty' things that Tom did in such a short space of time and enjoyed talking about what would happen in their house if they had of done such a thing.

I'm not sure who enjoyed the book more, me or my 3 year old daughter. Loved the cat throughout the book changing colour.
