Biography

Alongside Switzerland's Celtic Frost and Sweden's Bathory, Germany's Helloween were possibly the most influential heavy metal band to come out of Europe during the 1980s. By taking the hard riffing and minor-key melodies handed down from metal masters like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, then infusing them with the speed and energy introduced by the burgeoning thrash metal movement, Helloween… Read more in Amazon's Helloween Store

BLINDING! 15 Aug 2001
By Bruce Turnbull VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
yup,blinding,that word kinda sums this album up,once you hear the weird sounds of the first track 'we burn' you might not expect the sudden rush of guitars and drums!then you get on the verse,which is ok,then to the fantastic melodic bridge,and the merciful chorus,this has to be one of the best openings to an album in the world!! sounding very much like iron maiden,this album sores through,it hasn't got a bad moment on it,it has two ballads 'if i knew' and 'forever and one',both becoming heavier later on, there are speed metal songs on it 'before the war'-somehow being speed metal and melodic trad. metal,which is a great mix!you have a typical helloween micky take rock song-'anything my mama dont like' although still good!,you have very maiden sounding tracks 'kings will be kings' and 'steel tormenter'-about a car race with the very provocative line 'you will never suck my steel bride' ha ha! very weenie hummor,and you have the dark title track,although a slower pace,still makes it as one of the best tracks off the album.Of the remaining tracks you have 'wake up the mountain'- a live favorite mixing prog rock and metal,then you have 'a million to one' and 'power' two very strong metal tracks with some amazing guitar work and duel harmonies,and the 9mins+ epic 'mission motherland' a cry out from aliens trying to make peace with the world,which include a very thoughtful lyric 'wake us when you have healed the world/save our souls..' with andi's vocals getting better on every track,and the song writing becoming more and more gracful,yet maintaining a trad/speed metal affect,this album has to be the best helloween album,and along with 'keeper..1+2' it shows you what helloween are made of,a spectaular album,and a must have for any metal fan

Helloween once more show their brilliance pushing power metal to new heights. The cover indicates a link with the 'Master of The Rings' concept (itself continuing the 'Keeper of The Keys' concept) and a link with Nostrodamus's end of the world predictions around 2000a.d.

Don't think this is all power metal, the speed metal roots show through on songs like 'We Burn', 'Steel Tormentor', 'Power' and 'Before The War' (with its Star Trek - TOS intro). Recommended.

Highlights include the excellent anthemic 'Wake Up The Mountain' and 'A Million To One' (with a brilliant instrumental break); the power metal anthem on speed 'Power'; the superb 'Forever and One (Neverland)' - one of the best anthemic power ballads ever written;

The 9min epic 'Mission Motherland' with its low-end metal riffing; the emotional power ballad 'If I Knew'; The title track - generally mid-paced (speeding up in the middle instrumental break) with more low-end riffing and choral and keyboard accompanyment lending it a symphonic metal sound.
