Product Description

This title provides an overview of making, decorating and using tiles. Some 30 techniques are illustrated and explained using earthenware, stoneware, porcelain and paper clays combined with decorative techniques of painting, screenprinting and sgraffito. Practical information is also give on uses of tiles including walls, floors, roofs, fireplaces and stoves; details on how to fix tiles ranging from murals to swimming pools; and advice on how to protect from frost and movement.

About the Author

Kenneth Clark has been involved with ceramics for over fifty years, in which time he was in partnership with his wife running Kenneth Clark Ceramics. After retiring in 1997, he continues to work as a freelance designer and maker. This is his fourth book on ceramics. In 1990 he was awarded the MBE for services to Art and Design.

Pretty, but of minimal use 21 Feb 2003

If you are looking for many small pictures with little detail for ideas, this is your book.

If you are looking for a source of instructional material with step-by-step or other detailed information on various methods of tile making and/or decorating, I STRONGLY suggest that you save your money & look elsewhere.

This book was a great disappointment to me & I found much more useful information in Giorgini's book, "Handmade Tiles."

After I got through the section on the history of tile...I don't understand why tile books all start with the same history lession, I found the book to be extremely informative and very well versed on a multitude of tile making and decorating applications. Thanks to Mr. Clark for sharing his knowledge.
