I also think Tabitha needs to review the cover of this utterly mesmerising read as it really doesn't do justice of just how good a story is held within. It needs something far more captivating that what it is at present, it doesn't drive readers to urge them they must read this book. I myself have been looking at it since it's release and just hadn't felt the pull to take the plunge but oh boy now I AM SO GLAD I DID! **Edited to say YAY the new book cover is 100% better than the previous. Quite simply again for this genre and as dark as the content is this book ROCKS!
Contained within the pages of this book is a story of sickening depravity. Shocking scenes. Utter despair. A little hope. A lot of conniving. A complete bitch who instigates the most horrific actions and thoughts. A whole host of sickening visitors. A henceman whose as sick as her. A man so thoroughly caught up in his captivity he has no hope. A chef/housekeeper whose frightened of all the consquences. A artist whose been caught up in the debauchery that is Drug abuse. Sex abuse. A dungeon. The horrific depraved debauchery that Blaine revels in at Albermarle Hall.
But what makes this book tick on the level that is does? It's all down to the penmanship of the author, oh boy does Tabitha capture you with her strong adjectives, her interjected wit from the mouth of Lilith and Finn, Gabe and even Henry. But then it's also the extreme depth of her descriptive writing. This book is not written by someone whose just trying their hand at writing it's full of clever dialogue and strong descriptive words.Read more ›
It brought out so many emotions in me, horror, fury, outrage, despair and pure hatred. I have thought very hard about how many stars I want to give it and instinct leads me to give it 1 as hated so many parts of this novel but I also loved many parts of it too.
Due to my Irish heritage this novel hit a nerve in more ways than one.
Finn Strachan is exactly that a tied man. He is nothing more than a slave tied to a sexual predator who stalks young people, she watches them, looks for their vulnerability and swoops. They are then used for her sexual gratification in whatever way she wants. She prostitutes them to whomever wants to use them.
The walls of Abermarle are a facade. It is advertised as a retreat for you to "get away" from the normal drudgeries of life and leads you to believe it is a safe haven. Safe haven it is not - it houses a monster.
Lillith Bresson, independent, feisty, outspoken young artist, takes no prisoners. She says it as it is but due to a selfish father she is forced to leave her home in Spain to go to northern England to repay her feckless fathers debt by painting a portrait of Lady Blaine Albermarle (God did I want to do damage to this woman)!
On her first night at Albermarle Hal Lilith is introducde to Blaine's "companion", Finn Strachan. Finn is a beautiful young man who seems to have it all but being an artist, Lilith sees what lies beneath the skin and discovers just exactly what Blaine is.
As the weeks pass, Lilith finds that she is drawn further into the dragons den.Read more ›
From the start it was a real page turner that had me on the edge of my seat. Although it had violent and graphic/gritty scenes throughout, it also had a good feel building, where you realised that good would overcome evil - without giving any of the story away.
Would give this book more than 5 stars if I could.
OMG, what did you lot make me read....... this is just, well, well, ermmmm well.......words fail me!
I cannot believe I have read this and the fact that scares me the most is that I actually believe that it happens, it makes me think hard, and that is good and bad. I have never been more disgusted reading a book...the feelings I had for Finn were off the chart, I felt for him all the way and was desperate for him to be saved...in comes Lili his Knightess (if that is such a word lol) in shining armour, just what Flynn needed and yes she saves him...not before they both go through a helluva lot more crap to escape...loved the characters, loved the side characters, loved the plot and just loved the book....emotional wringer, yes....will I have nightmares...most probably....well I be thinking about this book for a long time...hell yes....that means it was good!!
