Book Description

5 Oct 2006

No phone. No electricity. Snowed in with your family. Welcome to one hell of a Christmas.

When the Thorne family gather for the annual Christmas festivities - the arguments, jealousies and long-held enmities that make every family Christmas so special - they think they've only got to endure each other for three days, and then they can return to normality.

But then the snows come, along with the ninety-mile-an-hour winds and the plunging temperatures, and the Thornes get cut of with only each other for support, or to blame. It promises to be a Christmas like no other ...

Get to know the family you're never going to forget.

Product Description

"A pacy tale ... which builds to a satisfying climax ... peppered with entertaining observations about petty family rivalries and how they are inflamed by the claustrophobic and alcohol-fuelled nature of the annual Christmas get-together" (Daily Express)

"This duo never disappoints. Like hot chocolate on a freezing night, this is heart-warming but naughty" (Cosmopolitan)

"For anyone holed up over Christmas with even the best-behaved of families, The Three Day Rule offers gentle humour, engaging characters and an undemanding plot" (The Times)

"Funny and touching, with painful echoes of your own family Christmasses" (You Magazine)

"As ever, Lloyd and Rees' writing is seamless and absorbing, perfectly capturing the stifling atmosphere and the conflicting hopes and dreams of each character" (Irish Examiner)

4.0 out of 5 stars A Winter's Tale 30 April 2009
Now there's nothing I love more than a great Christmassy story. I'm still a child at heart, and Christmas is my favourite time of year by a mile. So, starting mid-November, I hunt out my Christmas novels and re-read them all! The Three Day Rule was a new one for me last Christmas, but one that will stay in my collection to be dusted off in another 6 months or so.
Perfect for a cold, dark December night with the Christmas lights flashing, and a glass of Baileys!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sheer easy reading pleasure 14 Mar 2010
By Mrs. Katharine Kirby TOP 100 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
The Three Day Rule by Josie Lloyd and Emlyn Rees

Like "The Sea of Adventure", "The Island of Adventure" by Enid B. this is perhaps "The Mine of Adventure" - an unputdownable tale which makes you feel you should be under the bedcovers reading line by line with the failing yellow circle of light produced by dying torch batteries. In fact the heroine Kellie does give a little tip, when in the grips of yet another extreme dangerous situation, that in order to make batteries last longer you can lick them...

Set on what can only be The Isles of Scilly, this fast paced gripping read will really hit the spot for some easy, poolside, relaxed reading. Not all books have to be difficult, challenging or up for discussion, some should be just as this is, a personal rollercoaster of excitement and pleasure. I read it in four hours and absolutely loved it.

4.0 out of 5 stars a great winter read 21 Oct 2006
I read this book a while ago, so not sure why this is being advertised as a new title.

Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Read it over xmas and you won't care if the TV is boring; you'll be engrossed in this tense story. Terrible weather cuts off inhabitants of a small island over xmas. So family problems have to be faced up to and sorted because there's no escape! This is a book to return to each winter, to remind yourself how much you enjoyed reading it the first time!
