Ovid and Lorelli Thornthwaite have been trying to kill each other for so long that neither twin can remember which act of attempted murder came first. But whoever struck first, trying to take each other's lives is simply what they do. Until one day a lawyer arrives at their house to take stock of its contents, and his accompanying son attracts their attention. Soon a new battle evolves - one in which the twins have to work together to solve the mystery of their parents' deaths. Can Lorelli and Ovid overcome their old animosities, and will they ever get to finish that game of chess?
I am really impressed by this book. The idea is one that I have never come across before, and who can pass up a book about twins killing eachover? As I twin myself I certainly could not. Complete with twisted humor and an extremely confusing mystery and viola, you have The Thornthwaite. I found it a bit hard to get into at first, but it was really good when I did get into it.
Jones has certainly captured sibling ribilry very well. Lorelli and Ovid were both very funny characters. I liked there decietfullness and lies. I did not like Adam. No one turned out to be just anyone in this book, they could be anyone.
The climax was very suspensefull. Extremely twisty. The ending was neat and cute. It had hints of Lemony Snickets, but that didnt really annoy me that much. Overall, this book was really amusing. And the cover is really funny.
