There are many translations and interpretations of the poems of Kabir- this author has his fingers on the pulse of the poet.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE THIRSTY FISH 28 Aug 2010

I have many of Mr Rao's translations in my library. He doesn't add, he doesn't take away. He just conveys what the writer meant--which is quite an art. His translations are superb.
3.0 out of 5 stars True to the original 29 Jun 2011

I like Rao's translation. It is simple, elegant and attempts to be true to the original words by Kabir, I congratulate the author for that. However, I wish the author had added the original Hindi text either as part of the prose or in the appendix, since a lot of Indians like myself are used to hearing or singing the original words, it would have helped immensely in correlating the original Hindi words with their meanings. The other complaint I have is that the book is overpriced for the amount of content inside it.
5.0 out of 5 stars A Real Gem! 25 Oct 2010
By Carole Jones - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Sushil's translations of classic Indian poetry are outstanding -- they are close to the original text, and expressed beautifully, without embellishments. I have several books of his translation of the classic Indian poets, and The Thirsty Fish is my favorite. If I had to choose one book to take with me to a desert island, it would be this one. Kabir gets right to the point, doesn't mince words, speaks profound truth about the human condition -- being a soul in a mortal body, living in the material world -- and points out the path to fulfillment.
