This is the 4th novel in the series, started off with 'The Rhythm Section'. The best way into the 4 is to read them in the order they were written; 'Gemini' may be the 3rd.
If you liked or loved the 3 novels by Stieg Larsson, then you will love these.
The novels have an Eurocentric core about them; what a wonderful change from the US Zionist crap from another thriller writer and so much better crated and told.
I loved them all, and even better, is to start them all over after say a year or two. Almost like reading them for the first time. I wish he would hurry and write some more.
Not to be missed!

I read this book not long after reviewing 'Gemini' and, for me, it is a much better novel, well worth the four stars.
In 'Gemini', there was so much confusion whether Petra Reuter would ever disappear and revert to Stephanie Patrick and now in this book, despite the title, several more identities crop up, disappear, reappear until, finally, there is a meeting with an active lookalike. Still all very confusing for the reader but, thankfully, it does pan out and gradually become clearer.
There is plenty of action, just a few pages of the author's view of life which I could do without in the scheme of things. However, as Stephanie does do a sort of 39 Steps journey across continents, the body count rises inevitably, often in a gruesome way as she finally manages to track down who has set her up for a big fall. Again, in keeping with 'The 39 Steps' she has a reluctant helper in tow whose role in it all does appear a bit iffy and is never really fully explained as to why the bad guys fear his contribution so much. Anyway, thanks to his brief stint of training by a Finnish Rally Driver, he does save the day at one point - yes, you can suspend disbelief and move on.
The pace is good, rather too much dialogue for my taste but all-in-all, a big and more entertaining improvement on the earlier novel (I haven't read the first two). I don't know if there's fifth in prospect but the door is certainly open and I would certainly buy the book if so.

This book marks a watershed in the life of Stephanie Patrick, hitherto a (very) Nikita-like assassin for the mysterious Magenta House, but also for the author Mark Burnell. There is an assuredness of plot, an originality to the ideas, a sheer class of writing which was lacking in the 3 previous novels but which here leaps from the page. Stephanie is now free from Alexander her menacing controller, but leaves the frying pan for an inferno, in which she knows neither who to trust nor why everybody seems out to get her.
I would very warmly recommend those unfamiliar with this "franchise" to buy all 4 books (The Rhythm Section, Chameleon, Gemini - don't buy Zoo Station it's the US print of Gemini!! - and now the Third Woman), and to plunge into Stephanie's world, reading one after the other. Burnell transports you into a parallel universe which is thoroughly enjoyable.

A fast-moving thriller
This book was very hard to put down. It is full of pace and quite topical, drawing in Iraq and oil issues, as well as conspiracy theories. Read more

I have read quite a few 'series books' by the likes of Connolly and Child but have to say that the Burnell's 'Patrick' books are the best. Read more
