Book Description

1 Nov 2008
Leona Hewitt, disguised in men's formal evening clothes, has secretly made her way into Lord Delbridge's private museum to find a relic stolen from her family. But someone else is in the dimly lit gallery on the same errand: a tall, black-cloaked man whose very voice is enough to put her in a trance. Thaddeus Ware, a mesmerist with psychic gifts, is accustomed to fearful reactions from others - women in particular. But Leona shows no trace of hysteria in his presence. A gifted crystal worker, she exerts a rather hypnotic power over the hypnotist himself. And she is determined to keep the crystal they recovered. Thaddeus, on assignment for the Arcane Society, knows the menace Leona is courting by absconding with the crystal. A source of remarkable energy, it holds the potential for great destruction. Lord Delbridge has already killed to acquire it, for it is his key to membership in the elite, shadowy group known as the Third Circle. And, with the help of a ruthless hunter of preternatural skill, dubbed the Midnight Monster by the press, Delbridge intends to find her. With the stolen crystal in their possession, the danger is only beginning...

5.0 out of 5 stars The Third Circle - Arcane Society Series 26 May 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is a must for any Amanda Quick fans out there. If follows on from her book Second Sight, and Gabriel Jones, head of the Arcane Society and his wife Venetia make an appearance in this book.
The book is about the Arcane Society and their quest to protect everyday people from the powers of the select few who are gifted, but turn to crime. If follows Thaddeus and Leona who are after the same crystal, the Aurora stone. Both believing it belongs to them.
I found this book very, very funny in places. The character Leona is one of her best, so strong, determined and able to hold her own against Thaddeus, a powerful member of the Jones family. The passion and banter that passes between them is Amanda at her best. It had me in tears, sent a chill down my spine in one part of the book and had me in stitches in others.
It is well worth the read, but a warning you won't be able to put it down once you start reading it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Arcane Lover 8 April 2009
Format:Paperback
I read 'The Third Circle' some time ago from the Library. It was the first I had read of the series and I really loved it. I now own 4 of this series and hope to buy this title eventually. I have been reading Amanda Quick and J.A.K. books for a few years and really enjoy the Arcane theme. The interwoven Victorian and Modern in this series alternately by J.A.K. and Amanda Quick I find enjoyably intriguing. I am already looking forward to reading the next one out "Perfect Poison" by Amanda Quick. Will there be more???

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 4 May 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I like the historical aspect of this book it is very entertaining. The fact that the women in the book are independent in a realistic way for the time they are living in is very interesting and unusual compared to most historical romance novels. The paranormal aspect of the book is thrilling and adds an extra bit of fun to the book. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for something different to read. The fact that this book is one of a series is even better while it stands alone like all of the Arcane novels it is great fun to understand the references to the other characters in the book who are also included in the series. I look forward to reading more of Amanda Quick in the future.
