Mr. Pluymen's book is written in a style that is easy to read and talks about real people and real experiences. It was filled with such helpful information that I read the whole book over a weekend. I was greatly inspired and appreciated the honesty he put in the book about his own struggle, other peoples' stories, and the effect alcoholism had on peoples' lives. I found it very enlightening to see how he and others were able to overcome (or "manage") their addictions and get on with their lives. He has a great sense of humor, which helps when trying to learn more about this disabling disease and how to cope with it and get relief! Also, he offers a lot of hope. He hits the nail right on the head as he talks about the fact that he and many others are working people, some wealthy, some middle class, etc. They hold down jobs, have marriages, and children, etc. But, yet, they have this overwhelming problem. Then, he talks you through how he overcame the problem. It took a long time. But he did it. And, now, even though I know he still has the disease, he has it under control and is living a nicer, more normal life. Perhaps most telling is that he is living!! And, he shares the stories of several others who have gone through similar struggles. I found a little of each of them in myself and my experiences with others who face this disease. I am a professional and I am sharing this book with many others who come to me for assistance in overcoming alcoholism. Burt provides a unique and fresh look at dealing with this very personal problem. I give the book a very high recommendation and am so thankful I came across it. :) JB
