Book Description

31 Oct 2008
Boris Johnson [is] known as the thinking man's idiot - Humphrey Lyttelton on "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue". Try as I might, I could not look at an overhead projection of a growth/profit matrix and stay conscious - Boris on why he quit after a week as a management consultant. He's the sort of person who 200 years ago would have died aged 30 leading a cavalry charge into a volcano - Frankie Boyle on "Mock the Week". It may be that the psychological effort needed to haul myself around into a more gaffe-free zone proves too difficult - Boris when asked if he would be included in the 2007 Tory reshuffle.Everyone has an opinion on London's mayor and the Tory Party's shining-star-cum-bumbling-liability, and the man himself has views on pretty much everything, from lapdancing to George Bush, the campaign trail to speed limits. This handy book, illustrated throughout with caricatures and wittily-captioned photos, collects together over a hundred Boris-isms and gems from critics and supporters alike, from Ian Hislop to Arnold Schwarzenegger. It is a must for any Boris fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars An apt title for an apt subject! 10 Oct 2008
Very funny and insightful insight into the mind of the new Mayor of London! Can't believe I just typed that....Anyway some great quotes that both shocked and amused me in this little book....The title is apparently a quote that describes Boris from the late great Humphrey Lyttleton. A good stocking filler I think.

4.0 out of 5 stars nonsensical, but hilariously funny 24 April 2011
Loved this, had nothing whatsoever to do with the serious aspects of Boris, but is an insight to the goofier much more approachable side to a brilliant man.
Would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good laugh.
A little overpriced for what is essentially a book that takes less than half an hour to get through though.

Boris is funny. He is also charming, erudite and clearly highly intelligent. His public persona has been carefully moulded to suit his eccentric tics and this book highlights all of this well. So a lot of who Boris is comes out of the page - but it is a bit of whimsey and without any real depth. Though interspersed within it are some gems that hint at a true politician and free thinker. It's hard to imagine his political colleagues or opponents managing something similar. It adorns my bathroom shelf and never fails to entertain the male visitors to the facilities.
