Many thanks Zargb5 for the wonderful review!
I chose to pick up on a couple of your points however, just for clarity. Hope you'll forgive me.
Firstly, these are in no way "transcriptions". Throughout the album I tried to balance out renditions that stayed relatively true to the original with those that simply used the melody (or a portion of it) as a springboard for new composition of my own... inspired by the original melody.
Additionally, there are no segments of composition (or "inner working") by Allan in these tracks that somehow weren't a part of the Allan album original versions, so the expansions that are apparent are all my own "supplementary" compositional developments, again, inspired by where and how I wanted to go with these treatments.
In summary, the only thing that remains true to Allan's definitive originals are the song melodies, which (occasionally) I'd transcribe for accuracy. The harmony was completely reformed and (as apparent) often the contexts completely re-imagined.
Lastly, it's not actually true I never played keyboards on an Allan Holdsworth release or concert. From the initial IOU period I was playing a piano interlude always as a part of our concerts, and indeed on that first IOU album I played a piano solo on the song Temporary Fault (followed by one from Allan on violin.) I also played the first (synth) solo on the title track of the "Wardencliffe Tower" record, and also played keyboards on (my own composition) "City Nights" from the album secrets (along with AH, Jimmy Johnson and Vinnie Colaiuta) even though on the initial album's release my name was not in fact quoted as having played.
Thanks again though, for the very flattering appraisal and I am delighted you enjoyed it.
Sincerely yours,
Gary Husband
